Trenkamp Rites At Ottoville
Native Resident Died At Toledo
            Ambrose F. “Colonel” Trenkamp, 56, of Toledo, a native and former resident of Ottoville, died at 5:30 Thursday afternoon of last week in a Toledo hospital. His death followed an illness of several years.
            Mr. Trenkamp was born at Ottoville on November 4, 1906, the son of August C. and Ann Trenkamp. He had resided in Toledo since 1938.
            On November 14, 1942, he was married in Toledo to Ruth Hummel. She survives with two step-sons, Ralph Hummel, of Washington D. C.; and David Hummel, of New York City; five sisters, Mrs. Norman Fisher; Huntington Woods, Mich.; Sister Mary Aniceta, C. PP. S., Dayton; Edna Trenkamp and Mrs. John Dugan, Lima, and Mrs. Charles Landwehr, Kalida; and five brothers, Henry of near Ottoville; August of Ft. Jennings; Arnold of Kalida; James of Lima, and Walter, of Holgate.
            Mr. Trenkamp was a former state examiner in the Bureau of Inspection and Supervision of Public Offices, State Auditor’s Office, having retired November 1, 1958, because of ill health.
            He was a member of Gesu Catholic Church, Toledo, of its Holy name Society and the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
            A solemn Requiem High Mass was entoned in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville, at 9:30 Monday morning. Burial was made in the parish cemetery.

Funeral Rites At Ottoville
Mrs. Joseph Horstman Died Friday Morning
            Mrs. Lucy M. Horstman, 61, of route 3, Ft. Jennings, died at 7:20 Friday morning in St. Rita’s Hospital, Lima. She had been in failing for four and one-half years, suffering from a heart ailment, and was in serious condition for four weeks prior to her demise.
            Mrs. Horstman was born at Cloverdale on February 10, 1902, the daughter of John and Ann Knippen. A lifelong resident of Putnam County, she was married to Joseph T. Horstman on April 28, 1920, in St. Barbara’s Church, Cloverdale.
            Surviving with her husband are two sons, Edmund, of LaGrange, Illinois; and Elmer of Ottoville; three daughters, Mrs. Lawrence Eickholt, Mrs. Jerome Friemoth and Mrs. Robert Miller, all of Ottoville; 25 grandchildren; four brothers, Albert Knippen, of Toledo; Raymond, Melitus and Arthur Knippen, of Cloverdale, and four sisters, Mrs. Oscar Kleman, Glandorf; Mrs. Gilbert Bendele, Mrs. Hugo Byrne and Mrs. Hubert Wannemacher, all of Ottoville.
            Mrs. Horstman was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville, the Rosary-Alter Society of the parish, and of the Ottoville Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
            Funeral services were held in the Ottoville church Monday morning and interment was made in the parish cemetery.

Death Takes Andrew Bendele
Funeral Services Held At Ottoville
            Andrew Bendele, 91, of route 2, Ft. Jennings, died at 8:40 p.m. Sunday in St. Rita’s Hospital. Death was due to complications, which developed from a fall at his home on Friday.
            Funeral services were at 9 a.m. Wednesday in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville. Rev. J. F. Frommherz officiated and burial was in St. Mary’s cemetery.
            Mr. Bendele was a lifelong resident of that area. He was born May 8, 1871, near Ft. Jennings, the son of Sebastian and Catherine Bendele. He married Mathilda Sanders on November 15, 1904, and she died in 1953. He was a retired farmer.
            Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Richard Ankenbruck, Ft. Wayne; Mrs. Albert Warnement, Kalida; Mrs. Dwight Nuttle, New Haven, Indiana; five sons, Edward, Hubert and Albert, all of Ottoville; Norbert, of Delphos; and Frederick, New Haven; 33 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Anna Kehres, Mrs. Barbara Maurer, both of Delphos; Mrs. Mary Wieging, Ft. Jennings; and Mrs. Tillie Geisken, Chesaning, Michigan; and a brother, Leo of Delphos.
            He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church.

Interment Made At Ottoville
Laura Wannemacher Died In Toledo
            Mrs. Laura Wannemacher, 63, a native of Ottoville, died in her home at Toledo Thursday of last week as a result of a heart ailment.
            She was born at Ottoville on April 3, 1900, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Weber.
            She is survived by her husband, Benedict; seven children, all of Toledo; a brother, Albert Weber, Delphos; two sisters, Mrs. Edward A. Eickholt, Ottoville; and Mrs. Harley Keller, of Swanton; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
            Funeral services were held in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Toledo, Saturday morning, after which the body was brought to Ottoville. Interment was made in St. Mary’s Cemetery at Ottoville at 9:30 Monday morning.

Services For Frank J. Utrup
Retired Farmer Of Near Ottoville
            Services were held at nine o’clock Monday morning in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville, for Frank J. Utrup, 86, lifelong resident of that community. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Frommherz officiated at the services. Burial was made in the parish cemetery.
            Mr. Utrup died at his home Thursday evening of last week following and illness of ten years.
            He was born December 21, 1876, on the same farm where his death occurred. He was the son of Henry A. and Anna Marie Utrup. He never married.
            Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Wannemacher, Columbus; Mrs. Emma Kelbley, Delphos; and Mrs. Leo Martin, Ft. Jennings, and two brothers, Henry, of Benton Harbor Mich., and Albert, who resided with his brother near Ottoville.

Syl Odenweller Died Suddenly
Rites Held Tuesday At Ottoville
            Sylvester A. Odenweller, 49, well known businessman of Ottoville, died unexpectedly at his home three o’clock Saturday morning. He had been ailing for the past week, but was apparently recovering, when he suffered a fatal heart attack.
            Mr. Odenweller was born at Ottoville on February 17, 1914 the son of Edward and Margaret Odenweller. A lifelong resident of Ottoville, he graduated from Ottoville High School and was married to Marie Metz at Ottoville on February 5, 1940. He was affiliated with the Odenweller Milling Company.
            He is survived by his wife, Children, Mrs. George Kimmet, route 1 Delphos; Joyce, Philip, Thomas, Edward, Kathy and Don, at home; one grandchild; two brothers, Ed of Ottoville, and Vincent, of Delphos, and three sisters, Mrs. James Abrams, Mrs. Ray Brinkman and Margaret, all of Cincinnati.
            Mr. Odenweller was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society of the parish, the Ottoville Lions Club, and the Delphos Country Club.
            Services were held in the Ottoville parish church at nine o’clock Tuesday morning. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. F. J. Frommherz officiated. Interment was made in the parish cemetery.

William M. Otte
            William M. Otte, 79, of Ottoville, died Friday morning enroute to St. Rita’s Hospital in Lima. Death was attributed to a heart attack.
            He was born on January 27, 1888, near Ottoville and in 1908 was married to Eleanor Lochtefeld, who died in 1921.
            Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Ruth Eickholt, Delphos; Mrs. Ethel Fischer, Cincinnati; and Mrs. Anna Odenweller, Ottoville; 13 grandchildren, and five great- grandchildren.
            For many years a barber in Ottoville, Mr. Otte was also a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, the Holy Name Society, and the Catholic Knights of Ohio.
            Requiem High Mass was said Monday morning in the church with Rev. J. S. Frommherz as celebrant. Burial was made in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ottoville.

Dr. J. F. Ockuly
            Dr. J. F. Ockuly, 88, Delphos physician, died early Saturday in St. Vincent’s Hospital, Toledo. He practiced medicine in Ottoville and Delphos for 54 years. He retired in 1955 because of failing eyesight.
            Dr. Ockuly was born in Cleveland on July 11, 1874, the son of Frank and Elizabeth Ockuly. He graduated from the university of Cincinnati in 1901.
            On June 16, 1903, he was married at Ottoville to Mary Miller. Surviving with his widow are four sons, Dr. Eugene A. Ockuly, Dr. John J. Ockuly and Dr. Edward F. Ockuly, all of Toledo; Dr. Orville E. Ockley of St. Paul Minn.; 13 grandchildren, and a brother, George Ockuley, of Marysville, Ohio.
            Dr. Ockuly was a member of the Allen County Medical Society, the Ohio State Medical Association, the American Medical Association, The Knights of Columbus, St. John’s Catholic Church, and the St. Joseph and Holy Name Societies of that parish.
            Rev. Joseph I. Schill, pastor of the Delphos church, was celebrant of the solemn Requiem High Mass entoned ay 10:00 o’clock Tuesday morning. The Rev. Msgr, J. F. Frommherz, of Ottoville, was deacon, and the Rev. John Kofflin, of Providence, Ohio was sub-deacon. Interment was made in St. Mary’s Cemetery at Ottoville.

Joseph Deitering Died Thursday
Ottoville Native Lived At Delphos
            Funeral services were held in St. John’s Catholic Church, Delphos, at nine o’clock Monday morning for Joseph A. Deitering, 50, a native of Ottoville.
            Mr. Deitering, an employee of the Delphos Service Department, died Thursday morning of last week in St. Rita’s Hospital, Lima, only a few hours after his admittance.
            He was born at Ottoville on March 16, 1912, the son of Henry and Catherine Deitering. He was married the Lauretta T. Murray on September 14, 1932.
            Surviving with his wife are his mother, of Delphos; three daughters, Mrs. Wilbur Matzen and Mrs. Jerry Ernst, of Delphos; Mrs. Ralph Suever, of Columbus; three sons, Joseph Jr., of Delphos; and Larry and David, at home; two sisters, Mrs. Klara Koester and Mrs. Isadore Miller, both of Ottoville; four brothers, John, of Portland, Oregon; Albert, of Wapakoneta; and Leo and Rudy of Ottoville; and seven grandchildren.
            The Rev. Joseph I. Schill officiated with burial in the church cemetery.

Bradley Joseph Beining
            Bradley Joseph Beining, five-month old son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph F. Beining, Ottoville, died at 10:25 Saturday morning in St. Rita’s Hospital, Lima. He had been ill five days.
            The infant was born December 21, 1962. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Nartker, of Delphos; and Mrs. Veronica Beining, of Ottoville.
            Services were held in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at nine o’clock Monday morning. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Frommherz officiated. Interment was made in the Ottoville parish cemetery.

Joseph H. Horstman
            Funeral services were held at 9:30 Tuesday morning in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville, for Joseph Henry Horstman, 64, a farmer of that community, Mr. Horstman died a 2:10 Saturday afternoon in St. Rita’s Hospital, Lima, shortly after being admitted. His death was due to a heart attack. He had been in failing health, however, for several months.
            Mr. Horstman was born at Glandorf on October 16, 1898, the son of Frank and Anna Horstman. He is survived by two sisters, Mary Horstman, Ft. Jennings; and Mrs. August Kreinbrink, of route 3, Ft. Jennings.
            The Rev. Msgr. F. J. Frommherz officiated at the services. Burial was made in the parish cemetery.

Stephen D. Hilvers
            Stephen D. Hilvers, 58, resident of near Ottoville, died at 7:30 Tuesday evening in St. Rita’s Hospital, Lima, following an illness of three days due to a heart attack.
            He was born July 22, 1904, at Ottoville, a son of Henry and Mary Hilvers. He was married to Veronica Beining, at Ottoville, on October 5, 1932.
            Surviving are his wife; sons John and James, of Ottoville; Donald, Robert, Richard and Thomas, at home; a daughter, Ruth, also at home; two grandchildren; two brothers, Alex and Edwin, both of Ottoville, and three sisters, Mrs. J. H. Schweller and Mrs. Loretta Ruen, of Ottoville, and Mrs. Othmar Smith, of Columbus Grove.
            Mr. Hilvers, who was engaged in farming, was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, and the Holy Name Society of the parish.
            Funeral services will be held in the church at 9:30 Friday morning. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. J. F. Frommherz, will officiate. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
            The body will be at the Kolkmeyer-Clark-Helmkamp Funeral Home in Ottoville until time for services.

Mary J. Altenburger
Mary J. Altenburger, 98, of Cloverdale, died Monday at 2 p.m. at Shenks Convalescent Home at Beaverdam She was ill a year.
She was born July 6, 1867, a Ottoville, the daughter of Phillip and Magadaline Hohlbein. She lived in Cloverdale most of her life. She was married in 1889 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Ottoville to Andrew H. Altenburger. He died in 1927.
She is survived by three sons John of Toledo; George of Kalida and Leo J. of Cloverdale; three daughters, Mrs. William (Louise) Gilly of Hollywood Calif.; Mrs. Joseph (Hilda) Pittner and Mrs. Rudolph (Marcele) Hoehn of Ottoville; 18 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Three daughters and two sons preceded her in death.
She was a member of the St. Barbara's Catholic Church at Cloverdale and the Altar Rosary Society.
A Requiem High Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at the St. Barbara's Church by Rev. Richard Morman. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call at the Kolkmeyer-Clark-Helmkamp Funeral Home in Ottoville after 7 tonight. The Rosary will be recited at the funeral home Wednesday at 8 p.m.

Gregory L. Yates
            Gregory Lynn Yates, two-day old son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Yates, northwest of Ottoville, died at 11:10 Saturday night in St. Rita’s Hospital, Lima, where he was born on Thursday.
            In addition to his parents, he leaves two brothers, Jerome and Jeffery, at home; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Sanders, of Ottoville; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Margaret A. Yates, of Jacksonville, Florida; and the maternal great-grandfather, John Sanders, of Ottoville.
            Graveside rites were held at St. Mary’s Cemetery at Ottoville, at 10 o’clock Tuesday morning. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. J. F. Frommherz officiated.

Mrs. Emma Byrne
            Mrs. Emma C. Byrne, 85, Ottoville, died at her home at 2:30 a.m. Monday, following an extended illness.
            Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville, of which she was a member. Msgr. J. F. Frommherz celebrated the requiem high mass and burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
            Mrs. Byrne was born on May 21, 1878, in Ottoville, and lived there all her life. She was married to Daniel Byrne and he survives.
            Other survivors include four sons, Joseph, Orion, Hugo and John, all of Ottoville; two daughters, Mrs. Mathew Herman, Adrian, Mich.; Mrs. Salome Leatherman, Oakwood; four brothers, William and Gilbert Brandehoff, both of Delphos; John Brandehoff, of Ft. Wayne; Laverne Brandehoff, Wapakoneta; two sisters, Mrs. Sabina Weber, Chesaning, Mich.; Mrs. Eleanor Schulien, Ft. Wayne.

Wilhemina Hoersten
            Miss Wilhelmina (Minnie) Hoersten, 81, a former resident of Ottoville, died at 11 p.m. Tuesday in the St. Mary’s Nursing Home, St. Mary’s. She had been ill 11 months.
            Miss Hoersten was born at Ottoville on November 21, 1882, the daughter of Florenze and Elizabeth Hoersten. She was never married.
            Her only survivors are brother, Louis, of Rockford, and several nieces and nephews. She was member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville.
            Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the church with Msgr. J. F. Frommherz singing the requiem high mass. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ottoville. The body is at the Kolkmeyer-Clark-Helmkamp Funeral Home, Ottoville, where friends may call after seven o’clock this evening. The rosary will be recited at the funeral home at 8:00 p.m. Friday.
