John A. Landwehr
John A. Landwehr, 77, Ft. Jennings, died at 6:48 a.m. Tuesday, January 9, 1990 at the emergency room of St. Rita's Medical Center.
Mr. Landwehr was born February 23, 1912 to Henry & Catherine (Ricker) Landwehr. On August 16, 1939 he married Barbara Miller in Ottoville; and she survives.    
Mr. Landwehr was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Ottoville.
He was a retried farmer and self-employed truck driver.
Also surviving are one son, Richard Landwehr, Cloverdale; two daughters, Mrs. Paul (Ruth Ann) Ricker, Cloverdale, Arlene Baselice, Rockville Center, NY; 20 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Anna Koenig, Leipsic, and Betty Koenig, Adrian, MI.
He was preceded in death by one son Robert Landwehr.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church. Rev. Sylvan Obergefell will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ottoville.
Friends may call Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Kolkmeyer-Helmkamp-Siferd Funeral Home, Ottoville.
A Parish Rosary will be recited Thursday evening at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Margaret M. Eickholt
Margaret M. Eickholt, 71, Fort Jennings, died at 4:45 p.m. Friday, January 12, 1990, at Sarah Jane Chambers Geriatric Center, Delphos.
Miss Eickholt was born July 10, 1918, in Delphos, the daughter of Anthony (Andy) and Gertrude (Miehls) Eickholt.
Miss Eickholt was a retired secretary from Fruehauf Corp., where she worked for 25 years. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
Survivors include one niece Lynne J. Eickholt, Somerville, MA: one sister-in-law, Jane R Eickholt, Willmar, MN: and one aunt, Joyce Miehls, Delphos.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Fort Jennings. Rev. Roger Bonifas officiated.
Burial was made in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ottoville.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Kolkmeyer-Helkamp-Siferd Funeral Home, Ottoville, handled the arrangements.

Rose A. Winkelman
Rose A. Winkelman, 95, Ottoville, died at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday. January 24, 1990 at Delphos Memorial Nursing Home following an extended illness.
She was born August 30, 1894, in Ottoville, the daughter of Max and Sabina Rekart Winkelman.
Miss Winkelman had been employed by the Radcliffe Interior Decorating Co. of Toledo, where she was supervisor of the drapery department. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Ottoville.
Survivors include a nephew who took care of her, Richard Winkelman, Ottoville; and a sister, Alma Bourgeois, Toledo.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Albert, and three sisters, Frances, Sue and Mary.
Mass of Christian Burial was held a t 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Rev. Sylvan Obergefell officiated. Burial was in St.
Mary's Cemetery, Ottoville.
Arrangements were handled by Harter and Son Funeral Home, Delphos.

Eugene H. Hoehn
Mass of Christian Burial was said at 10:30 a.m. Monday January 29, 1990 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for Eugene H. Hoehn, 73, formerly of
Ottoville. He died at 1 a.m. Thursday at Florida Medical Center, Orlando, FL.
He was born July 26, 1916, in Ottoville, the son of Joseph H. and Regina C. (Kemper) Hoehn. On October 16, 1937, he married Ruth A. Rieger who survives.
Mr. Hoehn was a retired employee of Ford Motor Company Lima Engine Plant. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Ottoville and its Holy Name Society.
Survivors also include two sons, Robert Hoehn, Bangor, MI. and Paul Hoehn, Ottoville; three daughters, Mrs. Roger (Judy) Brickner, Ottoville, Mrs. Joseph (Doris) Siefker, Kalida, and Mrs. Kenneth (Rita) Halker, Columbus Grove: 11 grandchildren: two great-grandchildren: four sisters, Mrs. James (Mary) Mack, Fort Jennings, Mrs. Frank (Wilma) Sunderhaus and Mrs. Richard (Norma) Wolke, both from Ottawa, and Mrs. Daniel (Genevieve) Maag, Columbus Grove; and five brothers, Ralph Hoehn, Delphos, Richard Hoehn, Ottawa, Joseph Hoehn, North Olmstead, Gerald Hoehn, Ottoville, and Orville Hoehn, Dearborn, MI.
Mr. Hoehn was preceded in death by one daughter, Jean Ann Hoehn, one sister, Mildred Wieging, and two brothers, Victor & Thomas Hoehn.
Rev. Sylvan Obergefell officiated. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Arrangements were handled by Kolkmeyer-Helmkamp-Siferd Funeral Home, Ottoville.

Walter M. Koty
Walter M. Koty, 75, Foster City, CA, died Sunday, January 28, 1990, at the Kaiser Hospital in Redwood City, CA
He was born January 20, 1915, in Chicago, the son of Walter and Anna Koty. On September 7, 1946, he married Jane Miller who survives.
Survivors also include two sons, Bruce Koty, Redwood City, CA, and William Koty, Quebec, Canada: a daughter, Nanette Kerkhoff Puyallup, WA: and two grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate
Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville. The Rev. Sylvan Obergefell officiated. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ottoville.

Edwin H. Grubenhoff
Edwin Henry Grubenhoff, 74, Fort Jennings, died at 2:15 a.m. Thursday, February 8, 1990 at St. Rita's Medical Center.
He was born September 15, 1915, in Ottoville, the son of Henry and Matilda (Kehres) Grubenhoff. On September 1, 1943 he married Geraldine Osting who survives.
A retired farmer, Mr. Grubenhoff was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Ottoville and its Holy Name Society.
Survivors also include two daughters, Mrs. Alfred (Janet) Mescher, Troy and Mrs. Ronald (Mary Jean) Schweller, Fort Jennings: three brothers, Gilbert Grubenhoff, Fort Jennings: Victor Grubenhoff, Solon, and Bob Grubenhoff, Ft. Myers, FL, and a sister, Genevieve Alt, Tiffin.
Mass of Christian Burial was said at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville. Rev. Sylvan Oberegefell and Rev. John Kehres
officiated. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ottoville.

John J. Burgei
John J. Burgei, 57, Elida, died at 4:14 p.m. Tuesday, February 13, 1990, at Lima Memorial Hospital.
He was born April 17, 1932, in Putnam County, the son of Jacob and Veronica (Ricker) Burgei. On May 16, 1953, he married Avonelle A. Paul, who survives.
Survivors also include two sons, Richard and Joseph, both of Delphos; four daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Barb) Markward, Ottoville, Mrs. Robert (Marilyn) Metzger,
Mrs. Dennis (Pat) Fuge, and Mrs. Chuck (Tina) Wannemacher, all of Delphos: 17 grandchildren: two brothers, Orval Burgei, Delphos and Thomas Burgei, Ottoville, and six sisters, Alma Minnig, Mrs. Jerome (Ruth) Pohlman, Rosemary Pohlman, Mrs. Harold
(Norma) Vonderembse, and Mrs. Kenneth (Gertie) Rode, all of Delphos, and Mrs. Ralph (Irene) Miller, of Ottoville.
            A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John's Catholic Church, Delphos. Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery.

Richard W. Griffis
Richard W. Griffis, 79, Delphos died at 4:45 a.m. Saturday, March 24, 1990, at St. Rita's Medical Center.
He was born September 15, 1910, in Ottoville, to Harvey and Ida (Rekart) Griffis. On January 31, 1936, he married Helen Fleming, who survives.
Mr. Griffis retired in 1974 from the AC&Y Railroad after 31 years. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
Survivors also include three sons, Richard, Crystal Lake, IL, David, Delphos, and J. Craig, Sylvania; three daughters, Mrs. Leon (Diane) Youngpeter, Fort Wayne, IN, Mrs. Roger (Lynn) Davis, Delphos: and Mrs. Bruce (Terrie) Massa, Columbus; 29 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Earle (June) Gould, Lima.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, March 27, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial was in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.

John W. Pohl
John W. Pohl, 81, Fort Jennings, died at 12: 15 a.m. Monday at Van Wert County Hospital.
He was born November 27, 1908, in Ottoville, the son of John and Philomena Meyer Pohl. On February 2, 1932, he married Hildegard E. Utrup who survives.
Mr. Pohl was a retired farmer and a retired maintenance employee of Jennings Township. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Fort Jennings and its Holy Name Society.
Survivors also include a son, Clarence W. Pohl, Perrysburg: two daughters, Mrs. Dennis (Esther) Siefker, Delphos and Mrs. Donald (Doris) Honigford, Ottoville: 12 grandchildren: and eight great-grandchildren: four sisters and three brothers are deceased.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Rev. John Shanahan will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Wednesday (today) at Harter and Son Memorial Chapel, Delphos, where a parish wake will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Ida T. Mesker
Ida T. Mesker, 94, Delphos, died d 10 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 1990 at Sarah Jane Chambers Gertatric Center.
She was born April 11, 1896, in Ottoville, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Nietling) Deitering. On November 17, 1926, she married Sylvester A. Mesker, who died December 9, 1988.
Mrs. Mesker was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and its Catholic Ladles of Columbia.
Survivors include two sons, Robert J. Mesker and William Mesker, both of Delphos; two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Maryalice) Davey, Delphos and Mrs. Norbert (Betty) Schroeder, Leipsic: 18 grandchildren: and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Lonie, Andrew, Jim, Edward and Syl; and two sisters, Mary and Kate.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. John's Catholic Church. Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery.
Arrangements were handled by Harter and Son Funeral Home, where a C.L. of C. service was held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday followed by a parish wake at 8 p.m.

Leonard E. Turnwald
Leonard Turnwald, 74, Ottoville, died early Tuesday, April 17, 1990 at his home.
He was born November 10, 1915, in Ottoville, the son of Joseph J. and Theresia (Miller) Turnwald. On June 28, 1944, he married Armella Verhoff, who survives.
Mr. Turnwald retired from farming in 1980. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society.
Survivors also include two daughters, Mrs. Gary (Marilyn) Holdgreve, Delphos and Mrs. Steve (Donna) Long, Van Wert: five sons, Carl Turnwald and Eugene Turnwald, both of Ottoville, Mark Turnwald, at home, Joseph Turnwald, Kalida and Alvin Turnwald, Sylvania; 11 grandchildren: two sisters, Mrs. Edmund (Martha) Schimmoeller and Helen Fischer, both of Cloverdale: and a brother, Lawrence Turnwald, Ottoville. He was preceded in death by one brother, Ralph Turnwald.

Clara M. Koester
Clara M. Koester, 91, formerly of Ottoville, died at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, 1990 at Paradise Oaks Nursing Home in Cloverdale.
            She was born August 23, 1898 in Ottoville, the daughter of Henry and Catherine (Beining) Deitering. On May 6, 1919 in Ottoville she married Henry H. Koester who died April 21, 1942.
Mrs. Koester was a member of the Ottoville Rosary Society and the Immaculate Conception Church of Ottoville.
Survivors include two sons, Jerome Koester, Burnsville, MN: and Clarence Koester, Fort Jennings: three daughters, Mrs. Mildred Wannemacher, Ottoville, Mrs. Lawrence (Mary Jane) Burgei, Cloverdale, Mrs. Donald (Irene) Friemoth, Van Wert: 29 grandchildren: 18 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Isadore (Florence) Miller, Ottoville; and a brother, Rudolph Deitering, Ottoville.
She was preceded in death by five sons, Roman, Alophonse, Gerald (Dick), Victor and Virgil Koester; two daughters, Rita Burgei and Eileen Sanders: two grandchildren: four brothers, Joseph Deitering, Oliver Deitering, Albert Deitering, Leo Deitering, and one sister, Emma Deitering.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Immaculate Conception Church. Rev. Sylvan Obergefell and Rev. Herman Fortman officiated. Burial was in St. Mary's' Cemetery, Ottoville.

Funeral Mass was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 12, 1990, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for Howard H. Wannemacher, 68, Las Vegas, and formerly of Ottoville. He died Monday May 7, 1990 at his home.
He was born February 13, 1922, in Ottoville, the son of Albert and Bertha (Biedenharn) Wannemacher.
Survivors include three sisters, Irene Wannemacher, Delphos, Mrs. Robert (Ruth) Kleman, Fort Jennings, and Mrs. Ronald (Sharon) Seibert, Vandalia.
Rev. Sylvan Obergefell officiated. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Barbara F. Hutt, 83, formerly of Wapakoneta, died at 11:06 a.m. Saturday at St. Rita's Medical Center emergency room.
Mrs. Hutt was born March 23, 1907, in Ottoville, the daughter of Anton and Rosa (Bendele) Bensman. On February 14, 1930, she married Alfred J. Hutt who died May 25, 1965.
A homemaker. Mrs. Hutt was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 1272 Auxiliary and the Catholic Ladles Society.
Survivors include one son, Thomas Hutt, Morrow; four daughters, Mrs. Richard (Bernice "Dolly") Kiser, Wapakoneta, Mrs. Albert (Barbara) Hellman, Lima, Mrs. Robert (Marilyn) Sherman, Oxford and Mrs. William (Mary Ellen) O'Brien, Rochester, NY: 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren: and two sisters, Catherine Hohlbein, Delphos and
Veronica Stoody, Fort Wayne, IN.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, (today) at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Rev. John J. Franck officiated. Burial was in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Botkins.

Alice C. Hermiller
Alice C. Hermiller, 55, route 1, Cloverdale, died Sunday afternoon, June 3, 1990, at Samuel M. Heller Memorial Hospital, Napoleon.
She was born on November 10, 1934 in Columbus Grove, to Frank and Marcella (Brinkman) Fenbert, who are, deceased. On July 18, 1956, in Ft Jennings she married Arthur Hermiller, and he survives.
Survivors also include two daughters, Mrs. Dale (Joyce) Holdgreve, Delphos, and Mrs. Brian (Beverly) Berheide, Kalida; 5 sons, Michael, Maumee, Gerald, Findlay, Daniel and Gregory, both of Delphos, and Dale, Grand Rapids, MI: 10 grandchildren; four sisters, Rita Schmitz, Ottawa, Mrs. Gene (Edna) Ellerbrock, Ottawa, Mrs. Carl (Bertha) Hermiller, Columbus Grove, and Sister Gemma Fenbert, Defiance.
One grandchild and one brother are deceased.
Mrs. Hermiller was a member of the Ohio Polka Boosters, Ottoville Altar Rosary Society, and the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville. She was a self-employed interior decorator.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday. June 7, at 10:30 am in the church. The Rev. Sylvan Obergefell will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery, Ottoville.
Visitation is being held at Kolkmeyer-Helmkamp-Siferd Funeral Home, in Ottoville, today Wednesday 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. The Altar Rosary Society held a service on Tuesday at 8 p.m. and a parish wake will be held at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Preferred memorials may be made to the Immaculate Conception Steeple Repair Fund.

Howard E. Miller
Howard E. (Skip) Miller, 50, Ottoville, died at 4:55 a.m. Monday, June 11, 1990, at Van Wert County Hospital.
He was born on February 17, 1940, in Lima, the son of Wilbert R. and LaDonna (Becker) Miller. He married Ruth Gerding on May 18, 1963 and she survives in Ottoville.
Other survivors include one daughter, Lynne, at home and one son, Mark, Detroit MI.
Mr. Miller was president and general manager of John Schroeder, Inc., Columbus Grove. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville.
Services will be held on Thursday, June 14, 1990, at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville. Rev. Sylvan Obergerell will officiate.
Friends may call anytime Wednesday, June 20, at Kolkmeyer-Helmkmp-Siferd Funeral Home in Ottoville. A parish Wake will be Wednesday at 8 p.m.

Gerald C. Kromer
Gerald C. Kromer, 79, Lima died at 9:10 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, 1990, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.
He was born November 19, 1910 in Ottoville, the son of Frank and Anna (Sellet) Kromer. On June 30, 1951, he married Mary Jane Eickholt, who survives.
Mr. Kromer retired in 1975 after 35 years as a sheet metal worker with National Cromis. He was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church and the Sheet Metal Workers International Association Local Union 24.
Survivors also include a daughter, Mary Ann Kromer, Lima: two sons, Stephen J. Kromer and John C. Kromer, Lima; two grandchildren; a brother, Leon Kromer, Kalida:
and a sister, Wilma Kromer, Lima.
The Rev. J. Norbert Howe officiated at the services. Burial was in Gethsemani Cemetery.

Hilda A. Wurst
Hilda A. Wurst, 91, Ottoville, died at 8:25 a.m. Sunday, June 17, 1990 at Sarah Jane Chambers Geriatric Center, Delphos.
She was born February 26, 1899, in Dyer, IN, the daughter of Peter and Rosina (Fortener) Scharf. On June 22, 1927, she married Frank H. Wurst, who died July 10, 1985.
Mrs. Wurst was a homemaker and a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Ottoville.
Survivors Include five sons, Richard J., Leo A, and Arthur C., all of Ottoville, Larry K. Dayton, and Rodney P., Yardley; 16 grandchildren: 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lutgardis Helmkamp, Delphos.
Preceding her in death were three sisters, Henrietta Wannemacher, Eulalia Gasser and Pauletta Ward: and five brothers, A. J. Scharf, Otto Scharf, Leonard Scharf, Leo Scharf, and Eugene Scharf.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. today (Wednesday) at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville. The Rev. Sylvan Obergefell officiated. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ottoville.

James J. Knippen
James J. Knippen, 52, Ottoville, died at 3:51 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, 1990, at St. Rita's Medical Center.
He was born February 2, 1938, in Putnam County, the son of Raymond and Clocinda (Burgei) Knippen, who survive in Cloverdale. On August 9, 1955, he married Sharon Plescher, who survives.
Mr. Knippen was a maintenance employee for Fruehauf Corp. for 25 years and a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Other survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Owen (Shirley) Patterson, Fort Jennings, Jayne Knippen, Kassie Turnwald, Ortha (Pooh) Knippen and Olivia (Babe)
Knippen, all of Ottoville: four sons, Roger (Joe) Knippen, Mendon, Rick (Mase) Knippen, Cloverdale, Robb Knippen, Fort Jennings, and Tim Knippen, Ottawa; nine grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Anne (Boots) Korte, Ft. Jennings.
Services were held Friday, July 20, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Rev. Sylvan Obergefell officiated. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements were conducted by Kolkmeyer-Helmkamp-Siferd Funeral Home.

Mary A. Miller, 84, Delphos, died at 4:30 am. Wednesday, July 18, 1990, at St Rita's Medical Center.
She was born March 12, 1906, in Ottoville, the daughter of John "Henry" and Katharina (Wallen) Krietemeyer. On April 3, 1929, she married Benno Miller, who survives.
Mrs. Miller was a member of Delphos St. John's Catholic Church, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary of Post 3035, Delphos, and the Catholic Ladies of Columbia. She was the past regional director of Region 2 of the Ohio Association of Garden Clubs. She was a graduate of the Lima School of Practical Nursing.
Other survivors include two sons, Albinus L., Cloverdale, and Ralph F., Muskegon, MI: one daughter, Mrs. Marshal (Norma) Conner, Brackettville, TX; 16
Grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren: 8 step-great-grandchildren: four sisters, Sister Petronia of the Sisters of the Precious Blood, Dayton, Mrs. Alex (Christine) Ruhe, Continental, Loretta Krietemeyer, Ottawa, and Mrs. Clara Wurst, Cloverdale. Four brothers, David, John, Frank and William, and one sister, Elizabeth, are deceased.
Services were held 11 a.m. Friday, July 20, at St. John's Catholic Church with burial in St. John's Cemetery. Harter and Son Funeral Home, Delphos, handled the arrangements.

She was born January 27, 1963, in Lima, the daughter of Virgil F. and Judith A. (Martz) Miller, who survive in Ottoville.
Miss Miller was a 1981 graduate of Ottoville High School and a 1985 graduate of Ohio State University. She was a member of ICCC Choir, American Occupational Therapy Association, Ohio Occupational Therapy Association, Ottoville Theater Guild and Van Wert Civic Theater. Miss Miller was a former employee of Balyeat Coffee Shop, Van Wert and Lock 16 Restaurant, Ottoville. She was employed as an occupational
therapist at St. Rita's Medical Center, since 1985. She was a member of the Immaculate
Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville.
Other survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Rick (Lori) Fischer and Melinda Miller, both of Ottoville, two brothers, Todd Miller and Alan Miller, both of Ottoville: fiancé, Steve Warniment, Wapakoneta: maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Erwin E. Martz
Lima; and paternal grandmother, Mary C. Miller, Delphos.
Funeral services were held at 10.30 a.m. Monday at the church. The Rev. Roger Bonifas officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Paul J. Heckman
            Paul J. Heckman, 73, Dayton, died Friday. August 24, 1990.
            Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou (Becker) Heckman; one daughter; one son; two grandchildren; and four sisters among those Agnes Archdeacon and Mary Catherine Heckman, both of Ottoville, and Margie Heiss, of Delphos.
            A Mass of Christian Burial was held 10:30 a.m. Monday at Westbrock Funeral Home, Dayton.

Norbert F. Langhals
            Norbert F. Langhals, 76, Ottoville, died at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 28, 1990, at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.
            Mr. Langhals was born July 20, 1914 in Cloverdale to Joseph and Emma (Becker) Langhals. He married Lucinda A. Koester in Ottoville on April 19, 1941, and she survives.
            Also surviving are two sons, Ronald J., of Toledo, and James J., Ottawa; a daughter, Sister Joyce Langhals C.P.P.S., Dayton; three grandchildren; and three sisters, Martha Mayer, Ft. Wayne, IN, Solina Kramer, Grand Rapids, MI, and Mrs. Robert (Marcella) Gallogly, Fremont, IN.
            Mr. Langhals retired in 1976 as postmaster of Cloverdale, a position he had held since 1967. From 1946 to 1966, he was owner operator of the hardware store in Cloverdale. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville and its Holy Name Society, the Catholic Knights of Ohio, and the Putnam County Democratic Committee.
            A funeral Mass will be said at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
            Visitation is being held from 7 to 9 p.m. today (Wednesday) and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Kolkmeyer-Helmkamp-Siferd Funeral Home, Ottoville, where a wake service will be held at 8:30 p.m. Thursday.
            Memorials may be made either to the church repair fund, the Ottoville EMS or the Putnam County Health Care Agency.

Leonard Bensman
            Leonard Bensman, 64, of Lima, died Sunday morning September 2, 1990 at St. Rita’s Medical Center.
            He was born August 2, 1926 in Ft. Jennings to Anton and Rosalia (Gasser) Bensman. On August 3, 1950 he married Ruth Landwehr, who survives.
            Mr. Bensman was head custodian at Irving Elementary School in Lima. He was a member of Orioles Nest No. 173 and St. Gerard’s Catholic Church. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
            Survivors also include two sons, Jeffery Bensman and Douglas Bensman, each of Lima; Anthony Bensman, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; two daughters, Christine Shephard, of Columbus, and Martha Carder, of Delphos; and two grandchildren.
            Services were held 10 a.m. today (Wednesday) at St. Gerard’s Catholic Church with Rev. William Heanue officiating. Burial was in Gethesani Cemetery, Lima.
            Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Edna M. Stahl
            Edna M. Stahl, 81, Delphos, died at 2:40 a.m. Tuesday September 4, 1990, at Paradise Oaks Nursing Home, Cloverdale.
            She was born August 3, 1909 in Ottoville, a daughter of William and Veronica (Gulker) Becker. She was married September 30, 1933 to Cloyd Stahl, who survives.
            She was a homemaker.
            Survivors include two sons, John Stahl, of Ada, and Thomas Stahl, Dayton; one daughter, Mrs. Charles (Janice) Shoemaker, of Sacramento, CA; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ralph Becker, of Bradenton, FL, and Richard Becker, of Riverside, CA.
            She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, Delphos.
            Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Harter and Son Funeral Home, Delphos.
            A parish wake service will be at 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Joseph D. Byrne
            Joseph D. Byrne, 89, Delphos, died at 11:50 a.m. Wednesday, October 3, 1990, at Lima Manor Nursing Home.
            He was born August 8, 1901, in Ottoville, the son of Daniel and Emma (Brandehoff) Byrne. On October 30, 1922, he married Hildagarde Van Oss, who survives.
            Mr. Byrne was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, Delphos.
            Survivors include two sons, Walter D., Delphos, and Thomas T. Ft. Meyers, FL; four grandchildren; one step-grandchild; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, John, Ft. Jennings; and one sisters, Mrs. Josephine Herman, Adrian, MI.
            Services were held at 10 a.m. at the church. Burial was in the church cemetery.
            Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John’s Scholarship Fund.

Edwina C. Byrne
            Edwina C. Byrne, 78, Ottoville, died at 7:10 p.m. Saturday, October 20, 1990, at Sarah Jane Geriatric Center, Delphos.
            She was born May 21, 1912, in Cloverdale, the daughter of Joseph and Wilhelmina (Lehmkuhle) Miller. On September 16, 1930, in Cloverdale, she married Orion F. Byrne, who died March 5, 1984.  
            Surviving are three sons, Robert, Eugene and Hubert, all of Ottoville; one daughter, Mrs. John Rita Lewandowski, Holland, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and surviving brothers and sisters, Odelia Bensman, Continental, Sr. Leonissa Miller, Dayton, Marcella Bendele, Ottoville, Beno Miller, Delphos, Jerome Miller, Findlay, Edward Miller (Edwina’s twin), Defiance.
            Deceased brothers and sisters are, Leo Miller, and Cyril Miller; and one sister, Sr. Pious Miller.
            She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville, and its Alter Rosary Society, Catholic Ladies of Columbia, Ottoville VFW Post 3740 Auxiliary, and Delphos Eagles Auxiliary. She was a homemaker.
            Funeral services were held at the church on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. John Shanahan officiated. Burial was made in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Urban Bendele
            Urban Bendele, 75, Paulding, died at 11:50 a.m. Saturday, October 20, 1990, in Parkview Memorial Hospital, in Ft. Wayne, IN, where he had been a patient for two days.
            He was born October 25, 1914, in Ottoville, the son of Sebastian and Catherine (Altenburger) Bendele. In 1935 he married Lillian Line, who died in 1982.
Surviving are two sons, William, Wayne, OH, and Ronald, Paulding; three daughters, Linda and Robin, both of Paulding, and Marilyn Mutschelknaus, Payne; a sister, Lucille Lytle, Van Wert; three brothers, Roy, Shepherd, MI, Herbert, Van Wert, and Leonard, Ottawa, and eight grandchildren.
            Also preceding him in death were his parents; a sister, Marcille; and three brothers, Cleo, Jack, and Lawrence.
            Services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. The Rev. Cleo Schmenk officiated. Burial was in Blue Creek Cemetery, Haviland.
            Arrangements were handled by Den-Herder Funeral Home.

Gertrude Brinkman
            Gertrude A. Brinkman, 84, formerly of Ottoville, died at 6:25 p.m. Tuesday, October 23, 1990, at Calvary Manor Nursing Home, Glandorf.
                        She was born March 19, 1906, in Ottoville, to Nicholas and Theresa (Ricker) Bedink. Her first husband Henry Kistler died in 1947. She then married Lawrence A. Brinkman in 1950 and he died March 25, 1986.
            Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Virgil “Rick” (Mary Kay) Unverferth, Kalida; and two sons, Dan Kistler, Ottoville, and Nicholas Kistler, Lima; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
            Mrs. Brinkman, a homemaker, was a member of the Ottoville Alter Rosary Society and the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Ottoville. She was a cook at Del-Ward and Delphos Memorial Nursing Home for five years.
            Funeral services were held Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the church. The Rev. Sylvan Obergefell officiated. Burial was made in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ottoville.

Alberta Altenburger
            Alberta M. Altenburger, 92, Ottoville, died at 4:15 a.m. Saturday December 8, 1990, at Maria Joseph Living Care Center, Dayton.
            Miss Altenburger was born July 4, 1898, in Ottoville, the daughter of George and Dorothy (Schlagbaum) Altenburger.
            She was formerly a hostess at Lost Creek Country Club. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville.
            Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Lorene Kalt, Dayton.
            One sister, Clara Burke, and two brothers, George and Walter Altenburger, preceded her in death.
            Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. today (Wednesday) at the church. The Rev. Sylvan Obergefell officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mildred Welly
            Mildred Ann Welly, 85, Kirby, died at 8:40 a.m. Sunday, December 23, 1990, at Wyandot Manor Nursing Home, Upper Sandusky. She had been ill since November.
            She was born October 28, 1905, in Ottoville, to William E. and Margaret (Honingford) Frisch. She married Alvin John Welly on January 14, 1926, and he died May 2, 1966.
            Surviving is a half sister, Mrs. Willis (Irene) Masters, Upper Sandusky.
            Mrs. Welly was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Kirby.
            A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Kirby, the Rev. William Bodart officiated. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
            Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday (today) at Bringman and Co. Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky, where rosary service will be held at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a CL of C memorial service.

Jerome A. Eickholt
Jerome A. Eickholt, 70, Fort Jennings, died at 4:54 p.m. Monday in the emergency room of St. Rita's. Medical Center, Lima.
He was born May 19, 1920 in Ottoville to Leo J. Eickholt and Mary (Smith) Eickholt. He married Anna Marie Turnwald on April 11, 1942 in Ottoville, and she survives.
Also surviving are seven sons, Thomas J. Columbus Grove, Jerold J., Ottoville, Donald S.  Junction City, KS.; Daniel L., Mendon, Raymond G., Van Wert. Frank J., Ottoville, William L., Junction City, KS; three daughters, Mrs. Bill (Jane) Thomas, Columbus Grove, Mrs. Dale (Mary Ann) Good, Ft. Jennings, Kathleen J. Eickholt, at home: 16 grandchildren: three sisters, Mrs. Rita Ricker, Delphos, Mrs. Leo (Irene) Schnipke, Kalida, and Mrs. Louis (Martha) Kaverman, Delphos.
Two sons preceded her in death, Robert L. killed in Vietnam and Joseph J., who died in infancy and one brother Lawrence is deceased.
Mr. Eickholt was a member of the Holy Name Society, and the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville. He was a retired farmer.
A funeral Mass was held Monday at 10:30 at the church. The Rev. Roger Bonifas officiated. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ottoville.
            Kolkmeyer-Helmkamp-Siferd Funeral Home in Ottoville was in charge of arrangements.
            Memorials may be made to the American Society or to the church repair fund.

Roger J. Deitering
Roger J. Deitering, 62, Brookville, and formerly of Ottoville, died at his residence following an extended illness on December 24, 1990.
He was born March 31, 1928, in Ottoville to Leo and Rosa (Murray) Deitering. His mother survives in Ottoville. He was married to Jean Pohlman, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Chuck Deitering and Clifford Deitering, Brookville; two daughters, Linda Miller, Brookville and Leslie Deitering at home: one sister, Mary Lee Laudick, Upper Sandusky; seven brothers, Elmer, Piqua, Herman, Troy, Thomas and
William, New Cleveland, John, Sidney, Leo Jr., Baltimore, MD, and Daniel, Maumee; and three grandchildren.
Two bothers are deceased.
He was a graduate of Ottoville High School and The University of Dayton.
A Mass of Christian Buria1 was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Paul's Catholic Church, Engelwood. The Rev. Ronald H. Wilkcr officiated. Entombment was in Royal Oak Memoria1 Gardens.
            Preferred memorials may be made to Hospice of Dayton or St. Paul’s Church Building Fund.
