Rev. Father John Otto Bredeick, pastor of the Delphos parish, purchases 96.75 acres of land in what will be
Monterey Township in Putnam County Ohio. This land is adjacent to the Miami and Erie Canal and was
purchased with the idea to start a settlement. He had been coming to this section for some time admistering
to the needs of the few Cathoilc familys that had settled there since the completion of the canal. The property
was purchased from the Upper Sandusky land office.
