Fire at the
village of Ottoville destroyed the Van Oss & Guelker garage, where it
started, and also the Martin Bendele livery barn and several small buildings.
The church and school house, threatened by the blaze were saved from damage.
The Delphos fire department responded to the call for assistance, and first
started to Ottoville, with the auto fire truck pulling the large fire engine on
behind. The engine capsized into the big ditch along the road and was badly
damaged.
John M. Kollsmith
and M. H. Westrich, who were on the engine when it went over, were painfully
bruised, and soaked by the ice cold water in the ditch. The smaller fire engine
of the Delphos department was taken to Ottoville

– Fire destroyed the garage of Van Oss & Gulker, the paint shop and wagon
works of Gulker, the blacksmith shop and livery of Van Oss. Loss, $10,000
partly insured. Origin unknown.

– This village will pay damage to the Delphos fire engine, damaged while coming
here to fight a fire.

Delphos
– the local nine went down in defeat at the hands of the Ottoville aggregation,
with a score of 8-0, due to numerous errors. Next day, however, with Ditto in
the box, the locals walked away with the big end of a 6 to 2 score. “Smokey”
Wannemacher pitched for Ottoville.

Mrs.
Henry Gnoff, 43, Ottoville, died at the St. Rita’s Hospital, Saturday night.
She had been at the institution for some weeks. Mrs. Gnoff was recently
subjected to an operation. The body was removed to here home in Ottoville.

– the Ottoville team took the Delphos nine into camp here, shutting them out
with a score of 2-0 “Smokey” Wannemacher twirling for the opponents, and Tilton
for the locals.

Ottawa – Loretta McDonald, teacher at Ottoville,
suffered bruises when an auto, driven from Ottawa to Ottoville, by Monica
Wannemacher, was overturned, when making to short a turn.

Rev. Mertes Resigns; Other Changes Made
The Rev. J. B. Mertes, for many years pastor of the
Immaculate Conception Church, Ottoville, near Delphos, has retired from the
service of the church, after years of faithful service. The Rev. J. S. Arnoldi,
pastor of St. James Catholic Church, Toledo, has been appointed pastor at
Ottoville to take the place of Rev. Father Mertes.
The
Rev. Father M. L. Herzog, who has been assistant to Rev. Father Mertes at
Ottoville, has been assigned to Genoa.

New Pastor Will Be Installed at Ottoville
Monsignor
A. E. Manning will go to Ottoville Sunday, where he will conduct solemn
installation of the new pastor at St. Augustine’s Church.
The
Rev. Father Arnoldi, Toledo, is the new pastor, Monsignor Manning is Dean of
the Lima District of Catholic Churches and as such it falls upon him to install
pastors.

H. C. Burris Found Guilty
Ottawa, June 10 – (Special) H. C. Burris, of
Continental, was found guilty by a jury in the case tried the first week in
court in which Zora G. Martin, of Ottoville, charged he was the father of her
child.
Burris
sought to evade responsibility for the child’s care. It required but half an
hour for the jury to return the verdict, following the trial.
Only
informal matters will be heard in court the remainder of the week, no cases having
been set for trial.
