William Schneeg
William Schneeg Passed Away
Was Former Operator Of The Ottoville Theatre

William Schneeg, 81, of Ottoville, died in St. Rita’s Hospital, Lima, Saturday, Mr. Schnneg was a retired manager of the Ottoville Theatre.

He was born November 26, 1867. His wife, Anna, died in 1943. Surviving are seven children, Mrs. Elizabeth Johnson, Miss Barbara Schneeg, Paul, Anton, and Gilbert Schneeg, all of Ottoville, Mrs. Cerville Baker, of New Orleans, La.; and Mrs. Loreen Brookhart, of Buckland.

Mr. Schnneg was a member of the Catholic Knights of Ohio and the Immaculate Conception Church at Ottoville where funeral services were held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. Rev. Henry Gerwert celebrated the requiem high mass and burial was made in the church cemetery.

Agnes Brenner
Died After Long Illness
Rites For Agnes Brenner Saturday Morning

Mrs. Agnes Brenner, 67, lifelong resident of the Ft. Jennings and Ottoville communities, died in St. Rita’s Hospital, Lima, Wednesday afternoon at 5:08 o’clock after a long illness. She has been a hospital patient for the last two weeks suffering from complications.

Mrs. Brenner was born at Ft. Jennings on July 16, 1881, the daughter of Fred and Margaret Heising. She was married to George Brenner at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in that village on June 21, 1911, and he preceded her in death on July 31, 1942. She has resided in Ottoville the past four years.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Wilma Sellet, Ottoville; three sisters, Mrs. Joseph Runser, Bowling Green; Mrs. Albert Best, of Toledo; and Mrs. Frank Spieles, of Delphos; and two grandchildren.

She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, and the C. L. of C., Alter Rosary Society and Sacred Heart League at Ft. Jennings.

Funeral services will be held in the Ottoville parish church on Saturday morning at nine o’clock and interment will be in St. Joseph’s parish cemetery at Ft. Jennings. The remains will be at the Kolkmeyer Funeral Home in Delphos until time for services.

Lady Victim of Apoplexy
Mrs. Benjamin Rayman Is Buried At Ottoville

Mrs. Bernadine Rayman, 59, wife of Benjamin Rayman, Ottoville, died at 8 a. m. Friday in her home.

Born Feb. 8, 1890, on Kalida, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Brinkman. She was married to Benjamin Rayman Jan. 19, 1910.

Surviving are eight daughters, Mrs. Ladonna Gerlack, Toledo; Mrs. Mary Ann Turnwald, Mrs. Wilferd Gerker and Mrs. Gilbert Liebrect, all of Ft Jennings, Mrs. John Metz, Lima; Mrs. Thomas Byrres and Mrs. Harold Brinkman, both of Ottoville and Doris Ann, at home, two sons, Aloysius and Edward, both of this community; two sisters, Mrs. Henry Martin, Delphos, and Mrs. Mary Nieder, Ft. Jennings

The body will be removed Friday evening from Kolkmeyer funeral home, Delphos, to the residence Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Pfc. William E. Turnwald

Funeral rites for Pfc. William E. Turnwald, World War II victim of the U. S. Army, will be held at 9:30 a. m. Thursday in the St John's Catholic Church at Delphos with burial in the church cemetery there.

The body will arrive in Delphos at 6:30 p. m Tuesday and will be at the Kolkmeyer funeral home until church services.

He was born west of Ottoville Sept. 26, 1925 and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Turnwald

He was killed in action April 6, 1945 at Kassel, Germany, where he served in Co. H 272nd Infantry 69th Division. At the time of his induction he was employed with the Gramm Trailer Corp., of Delphos. His marriage to Betty Wollet, Delphos, took place June 24, 1944 at Camp Shelby, Miss.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church here, the Eagles lodge at Delphos. Military rites will be conducted by the Ottoville Veteran of Foreign Wars. post.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Joyce Linn, his parents; two sisters, Mrs. Jerome Eickholt and Miss Betty Turnwald, of Ottoville; and three brothers, John, Sylvester and Leon Turnwald, all of the Ottoville community.

Passed Away At Ottoville
Gerhard Otte Sr., Victim Of Heart Attack

Gerhard H. Otte, Sr., lifelong resident of Ottoville and businessman of that village for many years, passed away at 10:30 Wednesday morning at his home the result of a heart attack. He had been ailing for a month prior to his death.

Mr. Otte was born at Ottoville on October 8, 1870, the son of Gerhard and Anna Otte, and was 78 years of age. He was married to Miss Barbar Tithof at Ottoville on April 16, 1906.

Mr. Otte operated a restaurant at Ottoville for more than 45 years, and for 12 years served as trustee of Monterey Township.

He is survived by his wife; eight children, Mrs. Marcille Boerger, Lima; Mrs. Euletta Weber, Detroit, Mich.; Gerhard Otte, Jr., Ottoville; Mrs. Margaret Metzger, Dayton; Elvira, Henry, Mary Ann and Betty Otte, at home. He also leaves two brothers, William, of Ottoville; and Leo Otte, of Toledo; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Rekart, of Ottoville and 16 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 Monday morning in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville. Interment will be made in the parish cemetery. The remains were removed to the family residence from the Kolkmeyer Funeral Home in Delphos Thursday afternoon.

Mrs. Martin Is Summoned
Aged Ottoville Resident Died Wednesday

Mrs. Katherine Martin, 86, widow of William H. Martin, died of a heart attack Wednesday at 12:05 p.m. at the home of her daughter W. J. Klima, in Ottoville.

A daughter of Henry and Gertrude Kersting, she was born at Ottoville on August 8, 1862. She was married to Mr. Martin at Ottoville in 1881, and he preceded her in death on December 2, 1930.

Mrs. Martin is survived by three children, George A. and Henry A. Martin, both of Delphos; and the daughter Mrs. Klima, of Ottoville; 24 grandchildren; and 49 great-grandchildren.

She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville, the Alter Rosary Society and Sacred Heart League.

Funeral services will be held in the Ottoville church Monday morning at nine o’clock. Burial will be made in the church cemetery. The remains will be removed from the Kolkmeyer Funeral Home in Delphos to the Klima residence Saturday afternoon.

George Martin
George Martin Died Sunday
Native Of Ottoville Had Resided In Delphos

George E. Martin, native of Ottoville, died at his home in Delphos Sunday evening at 8:10 after a serious illness of a week. He had been in failing health for a year.

Mr. Martin, was born at Ottoville on May 27, 1889, the son of Joseph and Mary Martin and would have been 50 years of age this month. In 1938 he was married to Barbara Boberg, who survives.

He also leaves a stepson, Virgil Krebs, of Toledo; two grandchildren; and the following brothers and sisters; Louis, James and Henry Martin, and Mrs. Rose Boberg, of Delphos, and Charles Martin, of Fremont.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at Delphos with a nephew, Rev. James Martin, assisted by Rev. Cecil Gruber, officiating. Burial was made in Walnut Grove Cemetery east of Delphos.

Ferdinand Krebs

Ferdinand Krebs, 73, retired employee of the New Delphos Manufacturing Co., died at his home at 5 p.m. Saturday following an illness of one week.

Krebs was born in Ottoville and resided in this area all of his life. He was a member of the Catholic Knights of Ohio, the St. Joseph’s Society and Sacred Heart League of St. John’s Catholic Church.

In addition to his widow Josephine, he is survived by one brother, Jacob Krebs, Lima; and two sisters, Mrs. Adeline Horstman, Battle Creek, Mich.; and Miss Veronica Krebs, Glendale, Calif.

Services will be conducted at 9 a.m. Tuesday in St. John’s Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be taken from the Kolkmeyer Funeral Home to the residence Sunday morning.

Ottoville Child Drowned In Quarry Near Village Tuesday
Tommy Von Kaenel Fell Into Pool
About 10 Feet Deep
Funeral Friday Morning At Ottoville

The Ottoville community was shocked Tuesday afternoon when word circulated that Thomas Burke Von Kaenel, three-year-old son of School Superintendent and Mrs. Harry Von Kaenel had drowned in the quarry pool at the northwest edge of that village.

The child and his brother, David, five, and Phillip Odenweller, four, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Odenweller, had been playing near the Von Kaenel home only a short period before the tragedy. Parents of the children stated after the tragedy that the children never played around the quarry but apparently had wandered to the site Tuesday afternoon.

According to David and Phillip the boys were walking along the quarry when Tommy slipped along the bank and fell about 15 feet to the surface of the water, which was about 10 feet deep. They ran to the Odenweller home when they informed Mrs. Odenweller of what happened. She summoned aid and within a few minutes a number of persons gathered at the pool in an effort to bring up the body of the child, which could be seen through the clear water at the bottom of the pool.

The body was brought to the surface 20 minutes later by Louis Weber, junior high school student who dived into the water.

Delphos fireman rushed to Ottoville with the department’s resuscitator, and a Ft. Jennings Physician with several Ottoville citizens worked with the child several hours in effort to stimulate life in the young body. Dr. J. R. Echelbarger returned a verdict of accidental death.

Tommy was born in Ottoville on February 16, 1946, and in addition to his parents, leaves two sisters, Ann, 13, and Carol, 7; and four brothers, John, 11, Robert, 9, Harry, Jr., 8, and David, 5, and his paternal grandfather, John Von Kaenel, of Marion.

The body was removed to the Kolkmeyer Funeral Home in Delphos in preparation for burial and has been returned to the family residence in Ottoville.

Father Robert Von Kaenel, brother of Supt. Von Kaenel, will officiate at the funeral mass in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville Friday morning at nine o’clock. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, at Ottoville.

Frank Studenka (Reburial)

Reburial services for Pfc. Frank Studenka, Jr., of near Muntanna, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 28, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville. The Rev. Leo Frye will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Pvt. Studenka, a member of the 82nd Airborne Division, died at Normandy June 9, 1944, of wounds received in action. He was born November 2, 1907, in Czechoslovakia and had been a resident of near Muntanna since coming to America.

Surviving are his father, Frank, Sr.; and five brothers, Joseph, of Flint, Mich.; John and Charles, of near Muntanna, Louis and Stephen, of Delphos; and one sister, Mrs. Anna Youtsey, Muntanna.

The body will arrive in Van Wert at 12:07 a.m. Thursday and will remain at the Kolkmeyer funeral home, Delphos, until time of services. The Jacob Smith post Veterans of Foreign Wars, Ottoville, will be in charge of services at the cemetery.

Albert Greulich
Died After Long Illness
Albert Greulich, Ottoville, Died Friday

Albert W. Greulich, 54, died at his home in Ottoville Friday forenoon at 11:50 after an illness of one and one-half years. He had been in serious condition for several months.

Mr. Greulich was born in Frank, Ohio, on April 8, 1895, the son of William F. and Catherine Greulich, but had resided in the Ottoville community practically all his life. He is survived by six brothers and sisters, Carl and Felix Greulich, and Mrs. Henry Spencer, all of Ottoville; Victor and Roman Greulich, of Delphos; and Otto Greulich, of Van Wert.

The deceased was a veteran of World War I during which time he served with the 16th Infantry, 1st Division, and was a member of the V.F.W. of Ottoville and the Immaculate Conception Church of that village. Prior to his recent illness he was employed in Lima.

Funeral services were held in the Ottoville Catholic Church Monday morning at nine o’clock. Burial was made in the parish cemetery.

Chesaning Man Taken By Death
Was Packing Plant Worker

Chesaning -- John Gasser, 58, Chesaning resident for 27 years, died Saturday at his home after a long illness.

The funeral will take place at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. J. F. Grinzinger will officiate with burial in Chesaning Mt. Calvary cemetery. Friends will meet at the home at 8 p.m. Monday to recite the Rosary.

Born March 17, 1891, in Ottoville, O., he married Miss Elizabeth Neitling there in 1916. They came here in 1922. Mr. Gasser was employed at the Peet Packing Co. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Hope Church and its Holy Name Society.

He leaves his wife, four sons and two daughters; Harold, Ervan and Clarence of Chesaning, Wilbert of Maple Grove, Mrs. Alfreda Hemgesberg of Maple Grove, and Patricia Ann at home; four brothers and three sisters, all of Ottoville, eight grandchildren. Arrangements are by Walker Funeral Home.

Mrs. Van Oss Died Friday
Funeral Held Tuesday In Ottoville Church

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Van Oss, 72, lifelong resident of the Ottoville community died Friday morning at 6:55 in St. Rita’s Hospital, Lima, as the result of complications. She had been ill and in serious condition for a week preceding her demise.

Mrs. Van Oss was born at Ottoville on February 23, 1877, the daughter of Christian and Mary Schmersal, and had resided all of her life in Putnam County. She was married to George Van Oss on April 20, 1904. The couple had no children.

Surviving are the husband; a sister, Mrs. Anna Scharf, Monroeville, Ind.; and two brothers, John Schmersal, of Lima; and Joseph Schmersal, of west of Glandorf. Two brothers, William and Henry Schmersal preceded her in death.

Mrs. Van Oss was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville and the Alter Society of that parish. Funeral services were held in the Ottoville church Tuesday morning at nine o’clock and interment was made in the church cemetery.

Gilbert C. Wannemacher

Gilbert C. Wannemacher, 46, died unexpectedly last night of a heart attack while on his job as a janitor at the University of Toledo. His body was found in a classroom chair, Capt. William Reichard of the rescue squad reported. He lived at 553 Spencer St.

Born in Ottoville, O., Mr. Wannemacher lived her 32 years, all of the time on the South Side. Before being employed at the university, he worked in the plating department of the Toledo Scale Company.

Survivors include mother, Mrs. Clara E. Wannemacher; brothers, Russell F. and Richard L., and sister, Mrs. W. C. Wright, all of Toledo.

Services will be Friday at 8:30 a.m. in the James Coyle & Son Mortuary and at 9 a.m. in St. James Church. Burial will be made in Calvary Cemetery.

Susanna Plescher

Mrs. Susana T. Plescher, 48, died unexpectedly at 5 a. m. Monday at her home near here of a heart attack.

Mrs. Plescher was born December 16, 1901, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bohn, of Ottoville, who survive. She was married to John A. Plescher January 28, 1925.

In addition to her husband and parents she is survived by three daughters, Rita and Mary, at home, and Mrs. Lewis Calvelage, Delphos; two sons, Arthur and Robert, at home; two brothers, Joseph Bohn, Ottoville; and Sylvester, Toledo; two sisters, Mrs. Gephart Gasser and Mrs. Benjamin Honingford, both of Ottoville.

The body will be removed from the Kolkmeyer funeral home, Delphos, to the residence to remain until services. Requiem high mass will be celebrated at 9 a. m. Thursday in the Immaculate Conception church with the Rev. Henry Gerwert officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

William Bendele

William Bendele, 67, Columbus Grove, cued at 2 p. m. Saturday in St. Rita's hospital, following a four-month illness.

Mr. Bendele was born Sept. 21, 1881, in Ottoville, and was a member of St. Michael's Catholic church in Kalida and the Holy Name society of the church. His wife, Elizabeth Lehmkuhle Bendele, died in 1922.

Surviving are two sons, Silvarious, Brooklyn, Mich., and Jerome, Route 1, Columbus Grove; four daughters, Mrs. Barbara Sroufe, Addison, Mich.; Mrs. Selesta Dunn, Ottawa; Mrs. Rita Slant, Delphos, and Mrs. Agnes Nomina, Route 3, Delphos; 33 grandchildren; three brothers, Joseph Bendele, Delphos; Martin, Ottoville, and Charles,

Decatur, Ind ; three sisters, Mrs. Clarence Miller, Columbus Grove, Mrs. Otto Holdgreve, Delphos, and Mrs. Mary Grubenhoff, Washington.

Burial Made At Ottoville
Peter Gergen, 84, Died Early Sunday

Peter Gergen, 84, lifelong resident of near Ottoville, died at his home northeast of Ottoville at 2:10 a.m. Sunday. Death was attributed to heart disease.

Last rites were held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville and burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Mr. Gergen was born in Jackson Township on July 10, 1865. He married Minnie Grote on April 26, 1901, at Ft. Jennings, and she survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Leo Hoehn, of Lima; and Mrs. Sylvester Hoehn, at home; three sisters, Misses Anna and Susanna Gergen and Mrs. Margaret Liebrecht, all of Ottoville.

Mr. Gergen was a member of the Immaculate Conception church and of the St. Joseph’s Society of the church.

Paul Schneeg Died After Two Week Illness

Paul Schneeg, 67, died in his home at Ottoville at 1:20 p.m. Saturday following a two-week illness.

He was a lifetime resident of Ottoville. He was born there on August 16, 1882. Surviving are a brother, Anthony, and two sisters, Miss Barbara Schneeg and Mrs. Elizabeth Johnson, all of Ottoville.

Funeral rites were held in the Immaculate Conception Church at Ottoville at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Rev. Leo J. Frye celebrated the requiem high mass. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Ottoville Woman Died at Her Home Tuesday

Mrs. Louise Schlagbaum, 75, died at her home one-half mile east of Ottoville at 10:20 p.m. Tuesday following a year’s illness.

Funeral services will be held in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville at 9 a.m. Friday morning and burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Schlagbaum was born on September 28, 1874. She married William Schlagbaum and he died on February 9, 1945. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church and of the Alter Society.

Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. E. C. Murray, of Lima; Mrs. H. W. German, Delphos; Mrs. O. H. Ulrich, ft. Wayne, Ind.; and Agnes, at home; three sons, Alphonse, at home; Walter, Delphos; and George, Dayton; sister, Mrs. Anna Utrup, near Ottoville, a half-sister, Mrs. Matt Vondran, and a half-brother, Walter Kehres, both of Perry, Oklahoma.

Died Sunday at Son’s Home
Michael Obringer Services Held at Ottoville

Michael E. Obringer, well known resident of the Ottoville community, died at the home of his son, John, in Monroeville, Sunday afternoon at 4:30. He had been in failing health for several years suffering from complications and was seriously ill for two months.

Mr. Obringer was born in Fremont on December 15, 1860, a son of John and Elizabeth Obringer. His death occurred three days before his 89th birthday.

He came to this county in his youth and had engaged in farming until he moved to Ottoville about 20 years ago. He was married to Anna Kramer at Ottoville on May 26, 1891.

He is survived by his wife; four daughters, Mrs. Edward Stallkamp, of Norwalk; Mrs. Frank Friedman, of Canton; Mrs. Arnold Lauer, of Ottawa; and Mrs. Martin Hofacker, of Monroeville; three sons, Carl, of Piqua; John, of Monroeville; and Orville Obringer, of Casstown, Ohio; a brother, John Obringer, of Delphos; a sister, Mrs. Charles Weber, of near Ottoville; 37 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville Wednesday morning at 10:30. Rev. Henry Gerwert, the pastor, officiated. Burial was made in the church cemetery.

Ottoville Child Dies of Injuries
James Eickholt Rites Set Monday

James Eickholt, 7, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence L. Eickholt Ottoville, died at 2:48 a. m. Saturday in St. Rita's hospital from injuries received in an auto accident Thursday afternoon.

The child received a head injury, fractured pelvis and possible internal injuries when he ran from the Qttoville school playground into the side of a milk truck moving along Church St.

The truck was operated by Hubert Altenberger of near Ottoville.

His death marked the 13th accident fatality for Putnam-co in 1949.

He was in the second grade. His father, Lawrence, is manager of the Ottoville Heating and Plumbing Co.

In addition to his parents, surviving are two sisters, Marie, 2, and Kathryn, 10 months; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph T. Horstman, near Ft. Jennings, and paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Eickholt, also of near Ft. Jennings.

An angel mass will be sung at 9:30 a. m. Monday in the Immaculate Conception Catholic church, Ottoville, with burial in the church cemetery. The body to be removed late Saturday afternoon from Kolkmeyer funeral home, Delphos, to the residence in Ottoville.

Aged Woman Buried Saturday
Emma Wannemacher Died Wednesday Night

Funeral services were held Saturday morning in the Immaculate Conception Church at Ottoville for Mrs. Emma Wannemacher, 83, wife of Henry Wannemacher, who died Wednesday night in her home as the result of complication and infirmities.

Mrs. Wannemacher was born at Delphos on October 28, 1865, the daughter of John and Mary Kalt. She was married to Mr. Wannemacher in 1882, and the couple observed their 65th wedding anniversary last year.

She is survived by her husband: twelve children, Mrs. Adolph Lauer, of Detroit; Mrs. George Fierstos and A. J. Wannemacher, of Wabash, Ind.; Mrs. Bernard Ricker, and Othmer Wannemacher, both of Delphos; Mrs. Ray Baxter, of Van Wert; Ralph and Edwin Wannemacher, of Ottoville; Gilbert, of Ann Arbor, Mich.; Ralph, of Wauseon; and William Wannemacher, of Bakerfield, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Mayme Imber, of Delphos; two brothers, Frank, of Delphos; and John Kalt, of Harrod; 34 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Rev. Henry Gerwert, pastor of the Ottoville parish, officiated at the last rites and burial was made in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Henry Ruen Passed Away Saturday

Mrs. Mary Ruen, wife of Henry Ruen, passed away early Saturday morning at her home in Ottoville, following a stroke suffered Friday afternoon. She was seventy-six years of age.

She is survived by her husband, three sons, William, of Ottoville; Anthony, Continental; and Albert, of Ottoville; five daughters, Mrs. Lawrence Falke and Mrs. Frank Mesker, of Delphos; Mrs. Fred Brinkman, of Lima; Mrs. Harry Wolke, of Cleveland; and Mrs. George King, of Ottoville; 33 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren survive.

Funeral services were held Tuesday in the Immaculate Conception Church at Ottoville, of which she was a member. She was also a member of the Alter Rosary Society of the church. Burial was made in St. Mary’s Cemetery, at Ottoville.

The body of Pvt. Glenn E. Rayman, member of the U. S. Army, who was killed in action in France on June 22, 1944, the first body to be returned from overseas, was received at the Kolkmeyer Funeral Home yesterday.

The body will remain there until funeral services in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church here Friday at 10 a.m. The Rev. Henry Gerwert will officiate at the requiem mass. Burial will be made in St. Mary’s Cemetery, south of Ottoville.

Joseph Schwertner Died In St. Rita’s Hospital

Last rites for Joseph Schwertner, 60, were held Tuesday morning in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville and burial was made in the parish cemetery.

Mr. Schwertner died Saturday morning in St. Rita’s Hospital, Lima, following and illness of two weeks. He had been employed at Hixon-Peterson Lumber Company in Ottoville for a period of 28 years. A veteran of World War I, he was a member of the Ottoville VFW Post, and also held membership in the Delphos Council, Knights of Columbus.

He was born in Delphos on April 18, 1887, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Schwertner.

Mr. Schwertner was married to Cecelia Fortner at Ottoville on June 25, 1927. He is survived by his wife; a sister, Mrs. Walter Wannemacher, of Ottoville; and four brothers, Lewis, of Flint, Mich.; Edward and John, of Cleveland; and Robert Schwertner, of Ontario.

Miss Emma Liebrecht A Native of Ottoville

Miss Emma Liebrecht, 71, native of Ottoville, died in Alameda, California Saturday, March 19th. Funeral services were held Wednesday in St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Alameda.

Miss Leibrecht was born on December 16, 1876, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Liebrecht. She had resided in California for the last thirty years where she had been a housekeeper for the pastor of St. Leo’s Church.

She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Fred Kreinbrink, of Avilla, Ind.; three brothers, Ben Liebrecht, of Cuba; John, of Kalida; and Bill, of Ottoville; and her step-mother, Mrs. Margaret Liebrecht, of Ottoville.

Three half-brothers, Arnold and Lawrence Liebrecht, of Ottoville; and Frank, of Dayton; and three half-sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Kastner, of Dayton; Mrs. Lawrence Verhoff and Mrs. Andy Brickner, of Cuba, also survive.

Held Saturday Morning at Ottoville Church

Mrs. Rosa Hoehn, a resident of three miles northwest of Ottoville, died at 7:45 Wednesday night of last week in St. Rita’s Hospital, Lima. She had been ill three and one-half years and was in serious condition for ten days prior to her demise.

Mrs. Hoehn was born at Ottoville on April 28, 1892, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Weber, and was 55 years of age. She was married to Andrew Hoehn at Ottoville on April 28, 1914.

Surviving are her husband; five children, John Hoehn, of near Ottoville; Mrs. Wilbert Menker, of Dayton; and Anne, Lawrence and Walter Hoehn, at home; three grandchildren; three brothers, A. J. Weber, of Delphos; Louis and Frank Weber, of Ottoville; three sisters, Mrs. John Honigford, Mrs. Steve Miller and Mrs. William Perrin, all of Ottoville, also survive.

Funeral services were held in the Immaculate Conception Church at Ottoville at 10 o’clock Saturday morning. Burial was made in the parish cemetery.

Long Illness Claims Aged Ottoville Resident

John Kehres, 86, died at his home east of Ottoville Friday evening, following a long illness. He was born at Ottoville February 17, 1862, and lived there all his life.

His wife Anna Helmkamp Kehres, died in 1941.

Surviving are five daughters, Sister Mary Reginalda, of Carthagena; Mrs. Frank Rekart, of Van Nuys, Calif.; Misses Henrietta and Hilda Kehres, at home; ands Miss Amelia Kehres, of Toledo, and a son, Casmir, of Ottoville.

Funeral services were held at 9 a.m. Tuesday in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville and burial was made in the church cemetery.

Well Known Lady Called
Mrs. Anthony Koester of Ottoville Summoned

Mrs. Petronella Koester, wife of Anthony Koester, died at the family home west of Ottoville Tuesday morning at 5:45. Mrs. Koester was stricken with a heart attack several weeks ago, and was a patient at St. Rita’s Hospital, Lima, until Saturday. Apparently improved she was removed to her home, but suffered a severe stroke later that day from which she failed to rally.

Mrs. Koester was born at Frank, Ohio on October 28, 1896, the daughter of Frank and Catherine Greulich. She was 51 years of age. She came to the Ottoville community with her parents in childhood and was married to Mr. Koester on June 15, 1921. Mr. Koester was a former Vice Chairman of the county Triple-A committee, and president of the Putnam County Farm Bureau.

Surviving are her husband; five children, Connie Lou, James, Thomas, Betty Jane and Ralph, all at home; and the following brothers and sisters, Albert, Felix and Carl Greulich and Mrs. Hilda Spencer, all of Ottoville; Roman and Victor Greulich, of Delphos; and Ottoville Greulich, of Van Wert. Her parents and a sister preceded her in death.

She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, at Ottoville, the Alter Rosary Society and the C. L. of C., of that parish.

Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 9:30 in the Ottoville church with Rev. Henry Gerwert, the pastor, in charge. Burial will be made in the church cemetery.

William Schimmoeller Died Saturday Evening

William J. Schimmoeller, Ottoville, died in St. Rita’s Hospital, Lima, Saturday evening at seven o’clock after an illness of two weeks. He was removed to the hospital a week earlier from the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Thines, with who he resided.

Mr. Schimmeoller was born at Ft. Jennings on January 13, 1866, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Schimmoeller and was 82 years of age at the time of his demise.

He was married at Ottoville to Mary Langhals on August 28, 1894, and had resided on a farm near Ottoville until his retirement. Mrs. Schimmoeller died July 1, 1945.

He is survived by six children; Frank, of Chesaning, Mich.; Mrs. John Thines and Melitus Schimmoeller, Ottoville; Clarence and Alphonse, of Delphos; and Mrs. Norbert Wurst, of South Bend, Ind.; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Holgreve, of Lima; Mrs. Bernadine Hohebrink, of Pittsburgh, PA.; and Mrs. Herman Ricker, of Leipsic; a brother, Louis Schimmoeller, of Lafayette, Ind.; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A daughter, three brothers and two sisters are deceased.

Last rites were held in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville, Wednesday morning at nine o’clock. Rev. Henry Gerwert, the pastor, officiated. Burial was made in the parish cemetery.

Mrs. Mary Nomina, 70, died at her home two miles northeast of Ottoville Friday after an illness of a year due to complications.

Mrs. Nomina was born at Toledo, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Weiskoff. She was married to Mr. Nomina in 1915. The couple resided in Toledo until three years ago when they moved to there present home. She is survived by her husband; a son, Francis, of northwest of Delphos; and two sisters.

Funeral services were held in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville Monday morning at nine o’clock. Rev. Henry Gerwert, the pastor, officiated. Burial was made in St. John’s Cemetery, in Delphos.

Citizen of Ottoville Died On Wednesday

Funeral services were held in the Immaculate Conception Church at Ottoville at 9:30 a.m. Saturday for August C. Smith of that community who died in his home Wednesday of last week following a six week’s illness.

An employee of the Odenweller Miller Company virtually all of his life, he also served as town Marshall for sixteen years until his retirement seven years ago. Born in Landeck, he married Eva Janka April 23, 1894, and she survives.

In addition to his widow, he is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Milton Bowers, Lima; Mrs. Leo Eickholt, Ottoville; Mrs. Bryan Kaverman and Mrs. Albert Weber, Ottoville; two sons, Henry, Ottoville; and George, Delphos; a half-brother, Anthony Clementz, north of Ottoville; and a step-sister, Mrs. Charles Konst, Lima; 20 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Smith was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church and the Knights of Columbus. Burial was made in St. Mary’s Cemetery, at Ottoville.

Held Saturday in Ottoville Church

William F. Koester, 54, two and one-half miles northwest of Ottoville, died at 12:20 a.m. Wednesday of last week at Lima St. Rita’s Hospital, of a cerebral hemorrhage, which he suffered the previous Sunday.

Funeral services were held Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church in Ottoville with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Mr. Koester was born June 23, 1889, near Ottoville. On May 6, 1914, he was married to Miss Rosa Beining, who survives.

He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church and belonged to the St. Joseph’s Society of the church.

Also surviving are the following children; Richard, of Ottoville; Mrs. Norbert Langhals, of Cloverdale; Mrs. Cyril Weber, of Ottoville; Ambrose, of Ottoville; Celestine, Hilarius and Rosemary, at home. There are five grandchildren, one brother, Anthony Koester, and one sister, Mrs. Roman Miller, west of Ottoville.

Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at ten o’clock in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville for Mrs. Catherine S. Liebrecht, 58, who died at her home at Ottoville Saturday evening.

Mrs. Leibrecht, the former Catherine Knapp, was born in Cincinnati on March 7, 1890. She was married to William Leibrecht on June 29, 1921.

She is survived by her husband; three sons, Jerome, Paul and Claude, at home; two sisters, Mary and Clara; and five brothers, Louis, Paul, Ambrose and Urban Knapp, all of Cincinnati, and Rev. Charles Knapp, of Wellington, Texas.

The remains were laid to rest in the Ottoville parish cemetery.

Ottoville Farmer Victim of Leukemia

Gerhard H. Brinkman, farmer of one and one-half miles northeast of Ottoville, died Sunday night at 10:50 in St. Rita’s Hospital, Lima, where he had been a patient for six days. His death was attributed to Leukemia.

Mr. Brinkman was born at Ottoville son September 26, 1887, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mathias Brinkman, and was 60 years of age. He had been engaged in farming his entire life.

Mr. Brinkman is survived by the following brothers and sisters; Miss Mary Brinkman, Saginaw, Mich.; Mrs. Edward Schwertner, Cleveland; Sister Mary Irene, C. PP. S., New Reigel; Mrs. Louis Ricker, Miss Eleanora Brinkman and Sylvester Brinkman, all of Ottoville.

Joseph Giesken, Ottoville, Died In Italy

The body of Joseph M. Giesken, 28, who was killed in action on March 15, 1944, in the battle for the Anzio beachhead in Italy, is being returned to this country for burial.

Funeral services will be held at the Immaculate Conception Church in Ottoville with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery. The Ottoville V.F.W. post will be in charge of the military rites. No definite date has been set.

Mr. Giesken was born in Ottoville, August 13, 1916, a son of John and Rosa Giesken, both of whom survive. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, Ottoville. Prior to his entrance into the service, he was engaged in farming.

Surviving in addition to his parents are the following brothers and sisters; Alva, of Paulding; Mrs. Nelson Schwinnen, of Landeck; William, Ambrose, Clarence, Julius, and John, and a cousin, Rosemary Vincke, all at home.

Funeral Held Thursday at Ottoville

Last rites were held this morning, Thursday, in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville, for Anton, Janka, 80, of Ottoville, who died Monday at 7:00 p.m. in the home of his daughter, Mrs. C. H. Hancock, of Dayton, following a year’s illness.

Mr. Janka was born in New Washington, November 16, 1867. On November 25, 1903, he was married to Susie Schumaker.

Surviving are his widow; two sons, Alfred and Isidore; another daughter, Frances; a grandchild; a sister, Mrs. Eva Smith, all of Ottoville; a brother, Wentz, of Cloverdale; three half-brothers, Frank, of Chicago; Simon and Adam Janka, both of Cleveland; two half sisters, Mrs. Rose Balka and Miss Hannah Janka, both of Cleveland.

Burial was made in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ottoville.

Adam Wannemacher Died at Findlay

            Adam Wannemacher, eighty-five, a native of Ottoville, and retired farmer, and resident of Findlay in recent years, died Sunday morning at eight-thirty in his home. His death, which followed an illness of six weeks was attributed to asthma.

            Mr. Wannemacher was born September 9, 1861, at Ottoville. His parents were Joseph and Martha Wannemacher. He moved to Findlay in 1920 from Greenville, PA. In February 1883 he married Adeline Gard, who died in September 1932.

            He is survived by, Mrs. Henry Brown, Mrs. Irey Kiser, and Mrs. Bernard Wellington, all of Findlay, Godfrey Wannemacher, Greenville, PA, Fred Wannemacher, Cincinnati, Ralph Wannemacher, Dayton, Mrs. Wilbert Solomon and Mrs. Isadore Best, both of Ft. Wayne; two brothers, Godfrey Wannemacher, Ottawa, and Henry Wannemacher, Ottoville; there are 24 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Frank Grubenhoff Passed Away Wednesday

            Funeral services were held Saturday morning in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville for frank Grubenhoff, seventy-eight, who died Wednesday evening after a six weeks illness as the result of a stroke.

            Mr. Grubenhoff was born in Ottoville on July 7, 1868, the son of Henry and Louisa Grubenhoff. He spent all of his life in the Ottoville community where he followed the trade of a mason. He was a member of the Ottoville parish and the Catholic Knights of Ohio.

            He is survived by two children, Edward J. Grubenhoff, of Vaughnsville; and Mrs. Albert Ruen, of Ottoville; two brothers, Henry, of Ottoville, and Charles of Washington; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his wife, a daughter and one sister.

            Rev. Gerwert, pastor, officiated at the last rites and burial was made in the parish cemetery.

Philomena Rose

Mrs. Philomena Rose, 72, died at 2:30 p. m. Thursday in St. Rita's hospital, Lima, where she was admitted an hour before her death.

Born in 1875 at Ottoville to Mr. and Mrs. Matthias Huber, she and Joseph Rose were married at Ottoville in the year 1893. He preceded her in death in 1935.

She was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church, the local chapter of the Catholic Ladies of Columbia and church Altar Society.

One daughter, Mrs. Clinton Ball, Defiance, and two sons, Christ and Lawrence. Ft. Jennings, survive, besides a sister, Mrs. Rose Dunlap, Lima, and three brothers, Frank and Henry Huber, Ottoville, and John Huber, Delphos.

A requiem high mass will be offered at St. Joseph's Catholic church here at 9 a. m. Monday with Rev. John Miller officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

            Mrs. Johanna Hotz, a native of Ottoville and a resident of Delphos for a number of years, died in St. Rita’s Hospital, Lima, Saturday morning. She was eighty years of age. She was the widow of Joseph Hotz.

            Funeral services were held in St. John’s Church at Delphos Tuesday morning and burial was made in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ottoville.

Joseph Heising Died Sunday

Ottoville Farmer Was Ill Several Years

            Joseph H. Heising died at his home southwest of Ottoville Sunday afternoon at one o’clock after an illness of several years. He was born in this county on September 2, 1882, the son of Henry and Christina Heising, and he was sixty-four years of age.

            On May 2, 1915, he was married at Ottoville to Miss Anna Utrup. She preceded him in death on November 29, 1942. A daughter born to this union died in infancy. A brother, Henry, is also deceased.

            Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Theodore Lauf, of Ft. Jennings; Mrs. Adolph Miller, of Modesto, Cailf., and Mrs. Conrad Klima, of near Delphos.

            Funeral services were held Thursday morning in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville and burial was made in the parish cemetery.

Ottoville Woman Died Tuesday Morning

            Funeral services were held Thursday morning at nine o’clock in the Immaculate Conception Church at Ottoville for Mrs. Louise Kemper who died at the home of her son, Herman Kemper, Tuesday morning at five forty-five. She had been ill six months.

            Mrs. Kemper was born at Ottoville on May 23, 1865, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lambert Schulte. She was eighty-one years of age and resided in the Ottoville community all of her life.

            In 1885 she was married at Ottoville to Henry Kemper who died April 23, 1937. The following children survive: Herman, with whom she made her home; Mrs. Theresa Didion, Ft. Wayne, Ind.; Mrs. Elizabeth Hoehn, Dearborn, Mich.; and Mrs. Regina Hoehn, Ottoville. Two sisters. Mrs. Anna Mittelkamp, of Ottoville; and Mrs. William Ruen, Cloverdale; fifty-two grandchildren; and thirty-one great-grandchildren, also survive. She was preceded in death by three daughters and three brothers.

            Rev. Henry Gerwert, pastor of the Ottoville parish, officiated at the last rites, and burial was made in the church cemetery.

Miss Gerwert Found Dead

Ottoville Woman’s Body Found In Cistern

            Miss Katherine Gerwert, fifty-seven, was found dead in the cistern at the rear of the Immaculate Conception rectory at Ottoville Friday morning. She had been dead for just a short time when her body was discovered after she failed to appear at the early mass, which she habitually attended.

            Miss Gerwert was fully clothed when found and it is the opinion of friends that the incident occurred when she started from the rectory to the church. She had been ailing from the side effects of the flu for four or five weeks.

            Miss Gerwert was born in Essen, Ehineland, Germany, on October 19, 1889. She came to this country in 1914, and since that time kept house for her brother, the Rev. Henry Gerwert, pastor of the Immaculate Conception Church at Ottoville, and previously pastor of St. Nicholas parish, Miller City.

            In addition to her brother at Ottoville, she leaves three brothers and three sisters, who still reside in Germany. A brother died in St. Louis two years ago.

            Funeral services were held in the Immaculate Conception parish at Ottoville Monday morning at nine-thirty. Interment was made in St. John’s Cemetery, Delphos.

Ottoville Farmer Died Of Heart Attack

            Charles M. Leis, lifelong resident of the Ottoville community, passed away suddenly at his home two and one-half miles northwest of that village Wednesday forenoon of last week. His death was attributed to a heart attack.

            Mr. Leis was born near Ottoville on October 25, 1885, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Adam Leis, and at the time of his death was 61 years of age. He was married on June 24, 1913, to Miss Catherine Looser, who survives. He also leaves a son Hubert, at home; two daughters, Mrs. Ambrose Koester, of near Ottoville; and Miss Louise, at home; a sister, Mrs. Joseph Sellet, of Dayton. A son, four brothers, and two sisters preceded him in death.

            He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville and the C. K. of O. Funeral services were held in the church Monday morning at nine o’clock. Burial was made in the parish cemetery.

Alphonse Kemper Was Ill Five Weeks

            Alphonse J. Kemper, three miles north of Ottoville, died at his home at 11:40 p.m. Saturday following an illness of five weeks.

            He was born September 26, 1930, the son of Herman and Thersa Kemper, north of Ottoville, who still survive. At the time of his death he was sixteen years, 8 months and five days of age.

            He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church at Ottoville, and was a member of the freshman class at Ottoville High School.

            Surviving besides his parents, are the following brothers and sisters’ Mrs. Alex Muzecheck, of Dayton; Mrs. Frank Burdg, of Dayton, Mrs. Carl Gasser, east of Delphos; Henry and Leo, at home; Lawrence, of east of Delphos; Arnold, Lucille, Isidor, John, Joseph, Theresa and Agnes, all at home.

Mrs. John Fischbach Died of Infirmities

            Mrs. Mary Fischbach, wife of John Fischbach, died at her home in Ottoville Wednesday evening at seven o’clock. Infirmities were the cause of her demise. She was ninety years of age.

            Mrs. Fischbach was born in Luxemburg, Germany, and came to this country in her youth. She was married to Mr. Fischbach fifty-four years ago. The family moved from there farm in Jackson Township to Ottoville in 1920.

            Mrs. Fischbach is survived by her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Lewis Hoersten, of Cloverdale; two sons, Peter Fischbach, of Ottoville; and Henry Fischbach, of Delphos; and a sister, Mrs. Susan Thein, of Luxemburg, Germany.

            Funeral services will be held at ten o’clock Saturday morning in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, at Ottoville. Rev. Henry Gerwert, the pastor, will officiate. Burial will be made in the church cemetery.

John Schurer Rites Held Wednesday Morning

John Schurer, a native of near Ottoville, and a resident of that community until a year ago, died Sunday afternoon at three-thirty in the home of John C. Wiechart at Lima, after a ten day illness, due to complications. He was sixty-seven years of age.

            Mr. Schurer was born at Ottoville on December 21, 1881, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Baltas Schurer. He was married at Ottoville to Rose Leis, who died on May 18, 1946. He had resided on a farm west of Ottoville until a year ago when he went to Dayton, and a short time later went to Lima to reside with his niece, Mrs. Wiechart. A brother Joseph Schurer, of Ottoville, is the only immediate survivor.

            Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at nine o’clock in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville. Burial was made in the parish cemetery.

Linus A. Wannemacher

Funeral services for Linus A. Wannemacher, 42, local garageman, will be held at 9:30 a. m. Wednesday in the Church of the Immaculate Conception here with burial in the Church cemetery.

Mr. Wannemacher died at his home from a heart attack. He was born in Ottoville June 16, 1905, to Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Wannemacher. He moved to Celina in 1927. He and half brother, Richard, have operated the C. B. S, Motor Sales here since 1935.

Mr. Wannemacher was married to Miss Luella Bollenbacher in November, 1932, and she survives together with three children, John, Susan and Mary Ann at home, and four brothers, Albert C. and Walter of Ottoville, Richard and Ferd Wannemacher of Celina.

Farmer Dies From Stroke

John Schumaker Buried At Ottoville

            John M. Schumaker, sixty-five, well-known farmer of the Ottoville community, died at his home one mile south of that village at noon Thursday of last week. He had been ill for two years following a stroke of paralysis. He suffered a second stroke Thursday morning, which caused his demise.

            Mr. Schumaker was born at Landeck on August 8, 1881, a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Schumaker. On June 4, 1908, he was married to Miss Mary Martin at Ft. Jennings.

            He is survived by the widow; five children, Albert Schumaker, of Monroe, Mich.; Mrs. Thomas Burns, of Habron, Ind.; Leonard Schumaker, Monroe, Mich.; Mr. Ralph Spicer, Lima; and Miss Wilma Shumaker, at home; two brothers, Henry and Frank Schumaker, of near Ft. Jennings; two sisters, Mrs. Anthony Janka, Ottoville; and Mrs. Lena Kramer, of Marion. A brother and three sisters preceded him in death.

            Mr. Schumaker was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville, and the Delphos council, Knights of Columbus.

            Funeral services were held Monday morning at nine o’clock in the Ottoville parish church and burial was made in the church cemetery.

Well Known Woman Dies

Mrs. John Rode Passed Away At Ottoville

            A lifelong and well known resident of the Ottoville community, Mrs. Mary A. Rode, wife of John Rode, died Friday morning at one o’clock at the family home. She was seriously ill for three weeks prior to her death because of complications.

            Mrs. Rode was a native of Putnam County and was born near Ottoville on July 12, 1881, the daughter of Henry and Anna Utrup. She was married to Mr. Rode at Ottoville on October 19, 1904.

            Surviving are her husband, a daughter, Mrs. Florence Nartker, of Kalida; and a son Albert, of Dayton; four brothers, Joseph, Frank and Albert Utrup, of Ottoville; and Henry Utrup, of Watervliet, Mich.; and four sisters, Mrs. George Hedrick, of Wapakoneta; Mrs. Elizabeth Wannemacher, of Columbus; Mrs. George Kelbley, of Delphos; and Mrs. Leo Martin, of Ft. Jennings.

            Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at nine o’clock in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville. Rev. Henry Gerwert, the pastor, officiated. Burial was made in the parish cemetery.

Father Of Mrs. Potts Is Laid To Rest

            Funeral services for Joseph Shirack, sixty-four, father of Mrs. Arnold Potts, Ottawa, were held Tuesday morning at nine o’clock in St. John’s Catholic Church, Delphos. Burial was made in the parish cemetery.

            Mr. Shirack was found dead in bed at his home at three o’clock Saturday morning. His death was due to a heart attack. He was born at Ottoville on October 1, 1882, the son of John and Catherine Shirack. He was married to Anna Schneider at Otoville on May 24, 1904.

            Mr. Shirack is survived by his wife; six daughters, Mrs. Potts, of Ottawa; Mrs. Marie Wiecken, of Belle Center; Mrs. Clarence Youngpeter, of Landeck; Mrs. Robert Barr, of Lima; Mrs. Herman Bruger, of Dayton; and Mrs. A. J. Meyer, of Delphos; and two sons, Melitus Shirack, of Alton, Ill.; and Richard Shirack, of Delphos.

Margaret Burgei Passed Away

Last Rites For Ottoville Lady On Friday

            Mrs. Margaret Burgei, seventy-nine, of Ottoville, died at St. Rita’s Hospital, in Lima, at ten o’clock Tuesday morning following an illness of three weeks.

            She was born on February 24, 1868, in New Washington, the daughter of Conrad and Margaret Studer. In 1886 she was married to William Burgei, who preceded her in death in 1931. There were twelve children born to them and eight survive.

            They are: Mrs. Frank Gasser, Ottoville; Mrs. Adolph Rahrig and Mrs. Sylvester Hugel, both of Landeck; Sister M. Polcheria, C. PP. S., Celina; Caroline, at home; Joseph, Cloverdale; and Jacob and William, both of Ottoville. A half-sister, Mrs. Ben Distel, also survives. There are fifty grandchildren; and twenty-nine great-grandchildren.

            Mrs. Burgei was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church at Ottoville, and of the Alter Society of that parish.

            The funeral will be held Friday morning at nine o’clock, with Rev. L. Hoffman officiating. Burial will be made in St. Mary’s Cemetery at Ottoville.

Albert Bonifas

Albert Bonifas Dies of Crash Injuries Friday

Well-Known Local Man Dies at Gibbons Hospital in Celina Following Truck-Anto Crash — Gary, Indiana, Woman Also Dies as Result of Injuries in Same Crash —

No Information being Given as to Cause of Fatal Accident.

According to the members of the state highway patrol. Van Wert post, the investigation of the accident which took the lives of Albert Bonifas, of this city and Mrs. Clovis Gillogy, Gary, Ind., has not been completed and no information will be given out as to the cause of the fatal automobile-truck crash until all of the facts are compiled. It was stated by the patrolman that the investigation was still under way on Saturday.

The accident look place about 1 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Route 127 and 33, about 7 miles north of Celina. It involved the collision of a Myers Cleaners truck being driven by Mr. Bonifas and an automobile being driven by Charles Gillogy, husband of the victim. Mrs. Gillogy was killed instantly and Mr. Bonifas died about an hour later at the Gibbons Hospital in Celina. He suffered head injuries and internal injuries.

Albert R. Bonifas, 315 South Cass street, was born September 27, 1899 in Ottoville, the son of Charles and Josephine Bonifas. At the time of his death he was 46 years, 9 months and 21 days of age.

He was married May 5, 1920, at Monroe, Michigan, to Miss Cleo Lautenheiser, of this city. Mrs. Bonifas still survives.

He was a member of St. John's Catholic church, a member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of Eagles and a member of the Modern Woodmen of America. Mr. Bonifas was employed for a number of years at Myers Cleaners in this city.

Surviving besides his wife are one son, Robert, 514 South Cass street, one granddaughter, his mother, Mr. Charles Bonifs, East Sixth street and the following brothers and sisters: Linus Bonifas, Lima; Charles Bonifas, Monroe; Theodore Bonifas, Huntington, Ind.; Patrick Bonifas, Fort Wayne; Mrs. Theresa Stemen, Ft. Wayne; and

Arthur Bonifas, East Fifth street. One sister preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 9:00 o'clock Tuesday morning at St. John's Catholic church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The body will be taken from the taken from Harter and Son funeral home to the

residence Saturday afternoon.

Joseph Rieger Funeral is Today in Ottoville

Funeral services for Joseph Rieger of Ottoville who died at the Putnam county home will be held in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic church at 9 a.m. Wednesday with burial in the church cemetery. Arrangements are in charge of the Fischer and Son funeral home. There are no immediate relatives surviving.

John L. Martin , 66, of 419 E. Market-st. died at 12:20 a. m. Friday at his home. He had been resident of Lima 22 years.

Aged Ottoville Resident Suffered Broken Hip

            Mrs. Mary Flatz, aged and lifelong resident of the Ottoville community, died at St. Rita’s Hospital, Lima, Tuesday afternoon at twelve forty-five. Complications following a broken hip, which she suffered a week previous was the cause of her demise.

            Mrs. Flatz was born at Ottoville on March 17, 1868, a daughter of Ferdinand and Barbara Wannemacher. She was seventy-nine years of age. On May 7, 1889 she was married to John G. Flatz, who preceded her in death in 1924.

            She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. August Rellinger, of near Ottoville; a brother August Wannemacher, of Cloverdale; a sister, Rosa Wiechart, of Cloverdale; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. One child died in infancy.

            Funeral services will be held at nine o’clock Friday morning in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville. Burial will be made in the parish cemetery.

Miss Flora Altenburger Died Saturday Evening

            Miss Flora Altenburger, died Saturday evening at seven o’clock in the home she shared with her two nieces, Misses Clara and Alberta Altenburger, at Ottoville. Her death followed a heart attack. She was seventy-sic years of age.

            Miss Altenburger was the daughter of Peter and Mary Altenburger and was born in Auglaize County on October 5, 1870, but has spent virtually all of her life at Ottoville. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Blessed Virgin Sodality of that parish.

            Surviving are two brothers, Peter, at Botkins; and F. X. Altenburger, of Cleveland.

            Funeral services were held in the parish church in Ottoville Tuesday morning at nine o’clock. Rev. Henry Gerwert, the pastor, officiated. Burial was made in the church cemetery.

Anna Honigford

            Mrs. Anna Honigford passed away at one o'clock Saturday morning in the home of a daughter Mrs. Otto Miller south of Ottoville, after a six weeks' illness.

            Mrs. Anna Honigford the daughter of John and Mary Eberle, was born northwest of Ottoville on September 30, 1869. She was seventy-eight years of age and had spent all of her life in the Ottoville community. She was married to John Honigford who preceded her in death in 1941.

            She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Miller, and Mrs. Frank Weber; four sons, Clement, John, Joseph and Benjamin, all of Ottoville; a sister, Mrs. Anna Wurst, also of Ottoville; thirty-three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

            Funeral services were held at nine o'clock Tuesday morning in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville and burial was made in the parish cemetery.

Bertha E. Honigford

            Mrs. Bertha E. Honigford, of four miles northwest of Ottoville, was the daughter of Joseph and Kathryn Weber and was born at Ottoville on January 16 1908. She was thirty-nine years of age. She was married to Clement Honigford on May 4, 1927.

            In addition to her husband, she leaves seven children, Dorothy, Richard, Paul, Harold, Marilyn, Gerald, Betty, all at home; her mother Mrs. Kathryn Weber of Ottoville; and the following brothers and sisters; Edward Weber, of Chesaning, Mich.; Albert Weber, of Delphos; Mrs. Edward Eickholt, of Ottoville; Mrs. Ben Wannemacher and Mrs. Harley Keller of Toledo, and Ellsworth Weber, of Las Piedras, Venezuela, S. A.

            Funeral services for Mrs. Honigford and infant son were held Wednesday morning at nine o'clock in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville and Burial was made in the Church Cemetery.

Fred J. Wanstroth

Funeral services for Fred J. Wanstroth, 55, of 609 Lima-av, will be in St. John’s Catholic church at 9 a. m. Monday and burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Wanstroth died suddenly Thursday at Wapakoneta where he was employed with the Frost Co., which has establishments her and at Wapakoneta. His death was

attributed to a heart ailment.

He was born at Ottoville on Oct. 7, 1892, and wan a son of Herman and Elizabeth Wanstroth. He and Sophia Willacker were married at Ottoville on Nov. 12, 1913. He

was a member of the St. John's church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles here.

His wife and two children, Mrs. Louise Kerr, Lima, and Melvin, Sandusky, survive besides a sister, Mrs. Hermina Roberta, Delphos.

The body was removed from the Kolkmeyer funeral home to the family residence Friday.

Final rites for Adolph (Otto) Plescher, 44, who died in a Denver, Colo., hospital, will be at 9 a. m. Monday in St. Mary's Catholic Church here. Burial will be in the Church cemetery. The body will be removed from Denver to the Albert Plescher home in Ottoville to remain until time for services.

Surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Thresa Fruend and Mrs. Amelia Bechtel, both of Lima; Mrs. Anna Perrin, Ottoville, and Mrs. Josephine Brandehoff, Delphos; five brothers, Joseph, Ft. Wayne; Albert, Ottoville; Henry, Detroit; Gehard, Cleveland, and Leo, Denver.

Bernadine Heinl

            Funeral services for Mrs. Bernadine Heinl, 70, who died Sunday night in a Toledo Hospital, will be held in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Ft. Jennings, at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be made in the church cemetery.

            Mrs. Heinl had been in failing health for several years. She and her husband operated a general store and restaurant here until six years ago.

            The former Bernadine Kortokrax, she was born at Ottoville July 14, 1877, to Christopher and Anna Kortokrax. On October 10, 1894, she and Alex Heinl were married at Ottoville. He died April 1, 1943.

            Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Leo Wildenhaus, of Ft. Jennings; six grandchildren; a brother, Max Kortokrax, Hicksville; and a sister, Mrs. H. J. Beining, of Ft. Wayne, Ind.

            The body was removed from the Kolkmeyer funeral home, Delphos, to the Wildenhaus residence Monday evening.

Janet Knippen

            Janet Louise Knippen, two-month-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Knippen, Sr., of Delphos, was found dead in her bed at 1:30 a.m. today. Suffocation was the cause of death.

            The infant was born September 11, 1947. Surviving besides the parents are a twin sister, judy; two brothers, William, Jr., and Robert at home; the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Gasser, and the paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George Knippen, all of Ottoville.

            Angel mass will be sung at 9 a.m. Saturday in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Ottoville, with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery. The body will remain at the Kolkmeyer Funeral Home until time for services.

Burial Made At Ottoville

Dr. J. W. Dietrich Died Wednesday A. M.

            Dr. John W. Dietrich, of Ottoville, died at his home Wednesday of last week at 12:30 a.m. following a serious illness of three weeks. He had been ailing for several years.

            Mr. Dietrich was born May 23, 1883, in Monterey Township and was sixty-four years old at the time of his death.

            In 1911 he was married to Miss Mary Martin, who survives with two children, Mrs. Med Jennings, of Dayton; and Mrs. John Haunhorst, of Toledo. He has one grandchild.

            Dr. Dietrich was a graduate of Ontario Veterinary College, Ontario, Canada, and had practiced his profession in Ottoville for more than thirty-five years.

            He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Ottoville, where funeral services were held at 9:00 o’clock Saturday morning. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Was Prominent Farmer Of Near Ottoville

August C. Trenkamp, prominent resident of southeast of Ottoville, died Tuesday morning at two-ten in St. Rita’s Hospital, Lima. He suffered a stroke of paralysis a week prior to his demise and his condition was regarded as serious since that time.

Mr. Trenkamp was born in Germany on October 13, 1876, the son of Henry and Johanna Trenkamp. He came to this country at the age of eight years and settled in Glandorf. He was sixty-nine years of age.

He was married to Anna Ruen at Ottoville forty-three years ago. In addition to his widow, he leaves twelve children, Mrs. Charles Landwehr, Kalida; Ambrose, of Toledo; Walter, of Ft. Jennings; Henry, of Ottoville; Sister Mary Annaceta, C.PP.S., of Cleveland; Edna, Sally, and Mrs. John Dugan, Lima; Arnold, John, August, Jr. and James, at home; a sister, Mrs. Joseph Utrup, of near Delphos; and twenty grandchildren.

Mr. Trenkamp was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville, the St. Joseph’s Society and the Ottoville branch. C. K. of O.

Funeral services will be held in the parish church Friday morning at nine o’clock. Rev. Henry Gerwert, the pastor, will officiate. Burial will be made in the parish cemetery.

Rita C. Beining, Ottoville, Dies From Influenza

Mrs. Rita C. Beining, twenty-four, wife of John Beining, three and one-half miles northwest of Ottoville, died at six forty-five Sunday in Lima Memorial Hospital. Complications, which developed following an attack of influenza caused her death. She had been ill for the past week and on Thursday was removed to the hospital.

She was born at Ft. Jennings on June 2, 1921, the daughter of Matt and Agnes Hellman. Her marriage to John Beining took place at St. Joseph’s Church in Ft. Jennings on September 5, 1945.

When her death occurred, Mrs. Beining was twenty-four years, seven months and eleven days of age. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception church at Ottoville. With the exception of her married life, which was spent near Ottoville, she had been a lifelong resident of the Ft. Jennings community.

Surviving are her husband; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Matt Hellman, two and one-half miles east of Ft. Jennings; three brothers and three sisters, Joseph Hellman, north of Delphos; Pfc. Thomas Hellman, U. S. Army; Albert Hellman, at home; Mrs. Leona Metzger, of Delphos; and Dorothy and Esther Hellman, at home; and the grandfather H. C. Schimmoeller, near Ft. Jennings.

Services were held in the Immaculate Conception church in Ottoville at nine-thirty Thursday morning a Requiem High Mass was offered. Burial was made in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Joseph Klima Passed Away
Ottoville Resident To Be Buried Friday

Joseph W. Klima, seventy-five, lifelong resident of Ottoville, died at his home at five o’clock Monday following a critical illness of a week. In ill health for the past year, his condition has been more serious for the past eight weeks.

He was born in Ottoville on November 22, 1870, the son of Wenzlaus and Thekla Klima. His marriage to Elizabeth Sanders took place at the Immaculate Conception church in Ottoville on October 29, 1907. For many years, Mr. Klima was a saddler by trade. He was also in the shoe repair business and operated a retail shoe business.

When his death occurred he was seventy-five years, one month and seventeen days of age. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception church in Ottoville and of the Ottoville branch of the Catholic Knights of Ohio.

Surviving are his widow; a daughter, Mrs. Clarence Maag, of near Ottoville; a son Joseph Klima, Ottawa; nine grandchildren; two brothers, W. J. Klima, Ottoville; and Conrad Klima, Ottoville; and three sisters, Mrs. John Sierens, Cloverdale; Mrs. Andrew Meyer, Kalida; and Mrs. Frank Merschman, Delphos. A brother, John Klima preceded him in death.

Services will be held at the Immaculate Conception church in Ottoville at nine-thirty o’clock Friday morning. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Ottoville Man Killed As Two Cars Meet Head On
Frank M. Weber Died From Injuries
Four Persons Hurt
Ottoville Party On Way To Lima Plant

Frank M. Weber, sixty-three, of Ottoville, was killed and three other Ottoville men and an Elida woman were injured this morning, Thursday, when the cars in which they were riding collided head-on on route 30 south, between Elida and Lima.

State Highway patrolman are investigating the accident which happened shortly after seven o’clock as the men were on their way to work at the Lima Tank Depot.

Albert W. Greulich, fifty, who was driving the car, suffered chest injuries, a fractured jaw and lacerations. His condition was reported as very critical by attaches at St. Rita’s Hospital, Lima, Thursday noon. Wenzel Klima, fifty-nine another passenger in the car, suffered a fractured nose and lacerations and his condition is reported as fair. He is also a patient in St. Rita’s Hospital.

Carl Weber, the fourth occupant of the car, received cuts and bruises and was discharged from the hospital after receiving medical attention. Mr. Weber was pronounced dead upon admittance to the hospital.

Mr. Dorothy Smith, twenty, of Elida, was traveling west on the highway, and was the only occupant in the second machine involved. She was taken to Memorial Hospital, Lima, for treatment of severe injuries.

Mr. Weber was born in Stacyville, Iowa, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Weber. He had resided in this county for more than thirty-five years, and was married at Glandorf on April 24, 1912, to Philomena Rampe. Before taking employment in Lima he was employed for a number of years by the Odenweller Milling Company in Ottoville.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Miss Bernice Weber, Los Angeles, Calif.; and a son, Cyril, of Ottoville who recently returned from military service; his mother, of Stacyville, Iowa; four brothers, Joseph, of Iowa; Andrew, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Alex, of Ossege, Iowa; and Arthur, of Green Falls, Minn.; and two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Loreski, of Minnesota; and Mrs. Catherine Heimer, also of Minnesota.

Funeral services will be held Monday morning at nine o’clock in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville and burial will be made in the parish cemetery.

Andrew Wannemacher Laid To Rest

Andrew Wannemacher, lifelong resident of Ottoville, died at eight-thirty Monday at the Convalescent Home in Van Wert. He suffered a stroke eight weeks prior to his death and was removed to Gibbons Hospital in Celina. He was taken to Van Wert two weeks ago, suffering a second stroke Sunday.

Mr. Wannemacher was born in Monterey Township on April 28, 1864, a son of Ferdinand and Barbara Wannemacher. He was eighty-one years of age. On May 7, 1889, he was married at Ottoville to Magdalene Sahner. She preceded him in death on July 18, 1936. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville, the St. Joseph’s Society and the Ottoville branch of the Catholic Knights of Ohio.

Surviving are five sons, Albert C. and Walter Wannemacher, of near Ottoville; Fred, Andrew, Jr., and Linus Wannemacher, of Celina; a brother August Wannemacher, of Cloverdale; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Flatz, of Ottoville; and Mrs. Rose Wiechart, of Cloverdale; and twenty-six grandchildren. A son Isadore, preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at the Ottoville parish church Thursday morning at nine o’clock. Rev. Henry Gerwert, the pastor, officiated. Burial was made in the parish cemetery.

Nicholas Gergen Funeral Held Tuesday

Nicholas Gergen, eighty-five, progressive and esteemed farmer of Jackson Township, died at his home north of Ft. Jennings Friday evening at nine-twenty. He had been in failing health for several years and was seriously ill for a week prior to his demise.

Mr. Gergen spent all of his life in Putnam County, was well known throughout the county. Funeral services were held in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville Tuesday morning at nine o’clock. Rev. Henry Gerwert, the pastor, officiated. Burial was made in the parish cemetery.

Mr. Gergen is survived by three sisters and a brother, Susan and Anna, who resided with their brother; Mrs. Margaret Liebrecht, North of Ft. Jennings; and Peter Gergen, of near Ft. Jennings; and two foster sons, Lloyd and Joseph Landin, and by Frank Schumacher, who has been employed on the Gergen farm for the last forty-three years. Two sisters preceded him in death.

Requiem funeral services were held Tuesday morning at nine o’clock in St. Barbara’s Catholic Church at Cloverdale for Mathias L. Krieger, sixty-two, who died at his home in that village Saturday morning at seven-fifteen after an illness of several weeks.

Mr. Krieger was born at Ottoville on May 15, 1883, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mathias Krieger. He was married on November 16, 1902, at Ottoville to Anna Horstman.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Mrs. C. H. Kleman, of Wapakoneta; a sister, Mrs. Joseph Schuerman, of Ft. Jennings; a brother, Ed Krieger, of Harrisburg, Oregon; three step sisters and three step brothers.

Rev. Karl Willacker, pastor of the Cloverdale parish, officiated at the last rites and burial was made in the parish cemetery.

Edward G. Odenweller Was Prominent Citizen
Lived At Ottoville
In Grain Business For a Number Of Years

Edward G. Odenweller, prominent and well known Ottoville resident and businessman of Putnam County, died at eight o’clock Friday evening in Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati, as the result of a heart attack. He had been in poor health for the past several years as the result of a heart ailment and had been a patient in the hospital for two months.

Mr. Odenweller was born in Delphos on March 6, 1874, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Odenweller. He was seventy-two years of age. A brother T. A, Odenweller, passed away on Thursday of last week in Fostoria, also as the result of a heart condition.

Mr. Odenweller was married in 1906 to Miss Margaret Sommers, at Delphos. She preceded him in death in 1929.

Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Odenweller located in Ottoville, where Mr. Odenweller was affiliated with his father in the Ottoville Milling Company. At the death of his father he became president and general manager of the company, which adopted the family name, and continued in that capacity until his death. The company has elevators in Ottoville, Douglass, Muntanna, Kalida, Ottawa and Middlepoint.

In addition Mr. Odenweller was associated with the Odenweller Clothing Company ay Delphos, and for a number of years he also served on the Board of Directors of the National Bank of Delphos. He also served on an untold number of committees and county and community programs during the course of years, and was always known as a man of keen judgment and a willing worker. For many years he was a member of the Putnam County Board of Education. He was an ardent believer in good education facilities and programs, and during his membership on the board many board programs were put into effect and consolidation of school districts in the county was inaugurated.

Mr. Odenweller was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville; a member of St. Joseph’s Society of the parish; and a fourth degree member of the Delphos Council, Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by six children, Miss Margaret Odenweller, Cincinnati; Mrs. Ray Brinkmeyer, Ottoville; Mrs. James Abrams, Cincinnati; Edward, Jr., and Sylvester, both of Ottoville; and Vincent, of Delphos. He also leaves five brothers, Arnold, Ottawa; Louis, of Detroit, Mich.; Alex of Ottoville; and Sylvester and Leo, both of Delphos. Two brothers, William, of Kalida, passed away several months ago; Joseph died several years ago; and a sister Mrs. Katherine Ray also preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville Tuesday morning at nine o’clock. Rev. Henry Gerwert, the pastor, officiated at the last rites. Interment was made in the Ottoville cemetery.

Mrs. Schurer Passed Away
Spent Entire Life Near Ottoville

Mrs. Rose Schurer, sixty-four of one and one-half miles northwest of Ottoville, died suddenly at her home Saturday morning at eight o’clock following a heart attack.

Mrs. Schurer, the former Rose Leis, was born in the Ottoville community, the daughter of Adam and Catherine Leis. She had resided in the Ottoville community all of her life. Her marriage to John Schurer took place at Ottoville on November 15, 1932.

In addition to the husband, she is survived by a sister, Mrs. Mary Sellet, of Dayton and a brother, Charles Leis, of Ottoville.

Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at nine o’clock in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville. Interment was made in the parish cemetery.

Richard John Kramer, fourteen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Kramer, died at the family home in Ottoville Saturday morning at five o’clock. He was born December 25, 1931, and had lived in Ottoville all his life.

In addition to his parents, he leaves six sisters and one brother. Funeral services were held in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville Tuesday morning at nine o’clock. Burial was made in the parish cemetery.

Joseph Turnwald Passed Away Saturday

Joseph J. Turnwald passed away at his home, four and one-half miles northwest of Ottoville Saturday morning at two-twenty. He was sixty-eight years of age.

Born in Staub, Austria, on January 26, 1878, a son of Joseph and Mary Turnwald he came to this country with his parents when he was four years of age. The family first located in Fremont, Ohio, and two years later moved to Ottoville.

Mr. Turnwald was married to Miss Theresia Miller on May 1, 1906 at St. Barbara’s church, Cloverdale, who survives with two daughters and three sons; Mrs. Edmund Schimmoeller, Ralph Turnwald, Lawrence Turnwald and Leonard Turnwald, of Ottoville; and Mrs. Arnold Fisher, of Ft. Jennings. A sister, Mrs. Frank Schimmoeller, of Ottoville; three brothers, Charles, of Adrian, Mich.; William, of Ottoville; and Ed Turnwald, of Cloverdale; and fourteen grandchildren also survive.

Mr. Turnwald was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville, and the St. Joseph’s Society of the parish. Funeral services were held in the parish church Tuesday morning at nine o’clock. Burial was made in the parish cemetery.

Infant Died At Ottoville Monday

Joseph Edward, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph G. Miller of Ottoville, died at three-forty Monday at St. Rita’s Hospital, Lima, where he had been a patient for two days. An only child of the couple, he was born May 5, 1946.

The child is survived by his parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents, all of Ottoville. Funeral services were held in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville, Monday afternoon at two o’clock. Burial was made in the parish cemetery.

Henry Schmersal Had Been Ill Six Months

Henry Schmersal, lifelong resident of this county, died at the home of his step-son, Charles Looser, four and one-half miles west of Ottoville, Monday afternoon at four-thirty after an illness of six months. He was seventy-nine years of age.

Mr. Schmersal was born at Ottoville on April 16, 1867, the son of Christopher and Mary Schmersal. He was married to Miss Mary Krebs at Ottoville and two sons were born to this union, Albert, of Delphos; and Frank, who died in infancy. Mrs. Schmersal died in 1894.

On November 17, 1898, he was married to Mrs. Mary Looser. A son Florian was born to this union, of Delphos. Mrs. Schmersal died on December 23, 1940. In addition to two sons, and the step-son at whose home he died, Mr. Schmersal is survived by five other step-children, Joseph Looser, Ft. Jennings; Mrs. Charles Leis, Miss Clara Looser, Charles and William Looser, all of Ottoville; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Scharf, Monroeville; and Mrs. George Van Oss, of Ottoville; two brothers, John, of Lima; and Joseph Schmersal, of Greensberg Township; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and thirty-one step grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville Friday morning at nine o’clock. Burial will be made in the parish cemetery.

Trapped Between Tractor and House Wall

Citizens of the Ottoville community were shocked Saturday afternoon when word circulated of the tragic death of Edward Joseph Maag, ten year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Maag, of near that village.

The lad was killed instantly when he was crushed between the steering wheel of a tractor and the wall of a neighbors home. Playmates reported that the youth was playing with the tractor and accidentally shifted it into reverse gear. The tractor backed into a cellar excavation on the Robert Wannemacher farm, pinning him between the wheel and the wall.

The body of the boy was extricated by the Ottoville fire department. A physician who examined the body reported that Edward’s death was due to a crushed chest.

The victim, a student and a likable chap among fellow pupils, is survived by his parents; four sisters, Carol Jean, Marie, Juliana and Dorothy and two brothers, Oscar and Leon.

The lad was born in Ottoville on May 15, 1936, is also survived by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Maag, of Ottoville; and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Klima, also of Ottoville.

Funeral services were held in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville Tuesday morning at nine o’clock. Rev. Henry Gerwert, the pastor, officiated. Burial was made in the parish cemetery. Children of the Ottoville Schools attended the funeral mass in a body.

Two Young People Fatally Injured: Cars Meet Head On
Ottoville Man, Jennings Girls Are Victims
Crash Near Elida
Accident Occurred Early Sunday Night

Two young people of Putnam County were killed Sunday night in an automobile accident on route 30-s, two miles west of Elida when two automobiles crashed head-on, and another Putnam County man was seriously injured in the same accident.

According to Allen County Sheriff C. E. Hollar, Miller was traveling west on 30-s, when his automobile collided head-on with the eastbound car of Dahling. Miss Wieging, a passenger in Dahling’s automobile was thrown through the windshield and died in St. Rita’s Hospital, Lima, Monday morning at three o’clock as the result of internal injuries.

Miller lived about an hour and a half after the accident and died at nine-twenty in St. Rita’s Hospital from head injuries. Dahling was admitted to the hospital for serious cuts and body injuries. His condition is reported as good. Both cars were demolished.

Coroner Harry E. Lewis of Allen County, who is investigating the accident, has not stated what he believes caused the accident, which happened on a straight stretch of highway.

Miss Wieging, a senior in the Jennings High School, was born at Ft. Jennings on October 1, 1929, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Wieging, and in addition to her parents is survived by a sister, Ruth; and two brothers, Billy and Carl, all at home. She also leaves her grandmothers, Mrs. Elizabeth Comes, of Waverly, S.D.; and Mrs. Christina Wieging, of Ft. Jennings. Two brothers, Melvin and Robert, preceded her in death.

Funeral services for the young lady were held Thursday at nine-thirty in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at Ft. Jennings, of which she was a member. Rev. John H. Miller, the pastor, officiated. Burial was made in the church cemetery.

Mr. Miller was born at Toledo on May 9, 1923. He was a private in Co. B, 28th Infantry Training Battalion, in World War II, and held membership in the William Paul Gallagher Post of the American Legion at Lima. He was also a member of Delphos Aerie of Eagles and the Immaculate Conception Church at Ottoville. Since his discharge he had been employed at the Lima Ordnance Depot.

He is survived by his parents, Mrs. Christina Miller, of Ottoville; and William J. Miller, of Delphos; two sisters, Mrs. Robert Philo, of Bowling Green; Mrs. Ralph Weber, of Ottoville; and a brother, Lawrence Miller, at home.

Funeral services were conducted in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville Thursday morning at nine o’clock. Rev. Henry Gerwert, the pastor, officiated. Burial was made in the parish cemetery. The American Legion conducted military rites at the graveside.

Mary Veronica Kehres, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Victor J. Kehres of near Ottoville, died Wednesday of last week, shortly after birth. The child is survived by her parents, two sisters, Joann and Marjorie; two brothers, Gilbert and Michael, and the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Kehres, of Delphos; and Mrs. Helen Maenle, of near Ft. Jennings.

Services were held Thursday afternoon in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville and burial was made in the parish cemetery.

Mrs. Elizabeth Gulker, 55, of 843 Brice-av, died at 10 p.m. Monday in her home following an illness of four years. She was born in Putnam County and was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church.

Surviving are her husband, William H., of Glandorf; a son, Orvin J. 515 W. Market St; three daughters, Arlene, at home; Mrs. Alice Wiley, Delphos; and Mrs. Marie Malmede, Lima Route 7; her mother, Mrs. Catherine Weber, Ottawa; three brothers, Albert Weber, Delphos; Ed, Oswosso, Mich.; and Ellsworth, Venezuela, South America; four sisters, Mrs. Clem Honigford and Mrs. Ed Eickholt, both of Ottoville; Mrs. Ben Wannemacher, and Mrs. Ida Keller, both of Toledo.

The body will remain at the Davis-Miller and Son Funeral Home. Requiem High Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Friday in St. Rose Church with Msgr. James S. Elder as celebrant. Burial will be in Gethsemani Cemetery.

Burial Made At Ottoville
Mrs. Rellinger Died At Home Of Daughter

Mrs. Wilhelmina Rellinger, former resident of the Ottoville community, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Joseph Brinkman, in Delphos, at five o’clock Thursday evening of last week. She had been ill some time suffering from complications and infirmities of old age.

Mrs. Rellinger was born on Oldenburg, Germany, on March 1, 1861. She resided in the vicinity of Ottoville most of the time since she came to this country in 1885. She was eighty-five years of age.

She was married to August Rellinger in the Immaculate Conception church at Ottoville on January 10, 1887. Her husband preceded her in death on January 21, 1929.

Surviving are three children, Aloysius Rellinger, of Toledo; August Rellinger, of Ottoville; and Mrs. Brinkman, of Delphos; nineteen grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. A son and two daughters preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held Monday morning at nine o’clock in St. John’s Catholic Church at Delphos. Burial was made in the parish cemetery at Ottoville.

Funeral services for Mrs. Eda Wannemacher, 47, Ft. Jennings, who died at St. Rita's hospital in Lima yesterday, will be held Friday morning in St. Joseph's Catholic Church here with burial in St. Mary’s cemetery, south of Ottoville. The Rev. John Miller, pastor, will officiate at a requiem high mass.

Born Sept. 1, 1899, to Frank and Mathilda Droll of nearby Cloverdale, her marriage to Isidore Wannemacher took place Oct. 22, 1922. He preceded her in death in 1936.

Surviving relatives include four daughters, Margaret and Evelyn, at home; Alberta, Ft. Wayne, Ind; Mrs. Ralph Miller, Route 3, Delphos; two sons, Roman, Celina, and Hiliry with the U. S. Army in the Philippines; her father, Frank Droll, Fostoria: three sisters, Sister Mary Leandra, Cincinnati; Mrs. Arthur Ziegman, Fostoria; Sister Mary Damascene, Rome City, and three brothers, Joseph Droll, Ft. Wayne; Wilfred Droll. Carey, and Raymond Droll, Fostoria.

The body will be at the Kolkmeyer Funeral Home in Delphos until time for services.
