John P. Rekart

Ottoville Man Passes Away at the Home of Daughter

John Rekart, Resident of Ottoville and Vicinity all his life, Answers Final Summons – Funeral to be Held from Immaculate Conception Church Thursday morning.

            John Rekart, a life-long resident of Ottoville and vicinity, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Martin Bendele, with whom he had resided for six years, Monday morning at 7 o’clock. Mr. Rekart had been in failing health for a number of years, but was only confined to his bed for a day and a half.

            He was born February 16, 1861, on a farm just at the edge of Ottoville and resided there until he went to make his home with his daughter, Mrs. Bendele. In 1887 he was united in marriage to Catherine Wannemacher, in Ottoville, who preceded him in death in 1892. To Mr. and Mrs. Rekart five children were born, two of whom, Miss Martha Rekart, of Toledo and Mrs. Martin Bendele, of Ottoville survive. Mr. Rekart is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Sabina Winkelman, of Ottoville, and three brothers, Henry and Joseph Rekart of Ottoville and George Rekart of Cincinnati.

            The deceased was a devout Catholic, a member of the Immaculate Conception church at Ottoville and funeral services will be held there Thursday morning at 9 o’clock. The body will be laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery in Ottoville. Mr. Rekart was well known in Ottoville and vicinity and highly respected.

Ottoville Child is Taken by Death Sunday Afternoon

Son of Mr. and Mrs. George Brandehoff Passed Away After Two Weeks Illness from Spinal Meningitis – Funeral to be Held Tuesday Morning

            Eugene Daniel Brandehoff, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Brandehoff, of Ottoville, died at the family home at that place Sunday afternoon, at four o’clock. The child had been ill for the past two weeks, with spinal meningitis, and a few days ago spasms developed.

            The child was born at Ottoville on July 21, 1916, and was a little over six months old. Two other children, Albert and Adrian, are left to comfort the bereaved parents. The funeral services will be held from the Immaculate Conception church in Ottoville Tuesday morning, at nine o’clock, conducted by Rev. Meahe of Kalida. Burial in the Ottoville cemetery.

William Dickman

William Dickman, a Native of Germany Passes Away, Demise Being Due to Heart Trouble

            William Dickman, another highly respected resident of near Ottoville has answered the final summons, his death occurring at his home two and a half miles northeast of Ottoville, Monday morning, at nine o’clock, from heart trouble. Mr. Dickman had been in failing health for several years.

            The deceased was a native of Germany and was born in that country about sixty-five years ago. He had spent the greater part of his life in Ottoville and about thirty-five years ago was married to Anna Steilbrink. After their marriage they located in Ottoville and have since resided in that vicinity. To the union of Mr. and Mrs. Dickman were born twelve children, nine of whom are living. The surviving relatives are the widow and nine children, Henry and Anthony of Glandorf; William, Joseph and Benjamin of Ottoville, Mrs. Fred Heitmeyer, Mrs. Anthony Beining of Ottoville, Theresa and Mollie at home.

            Mr. Dickman was a member of the Ottoville Catholic church and of the St. Joseph Society. The funeral services will be held from the Immaculate Conception church Thursday morning, at nine o’clock, conducted by Rev. Fr. Ludwig. Burial at Ottoville.

Peter Leis

Peter Leis, Died Tuesday Evening at Home if his Mother After Lingering Illness

            Tuesday evening, at 6:45 o’clock, death came to Peter Leis, two and a half miles northwest of Ottoville. Mr. Leis had been in failing health for some time, and death due to complications, did not come unexpectedly.

            Mr. Leis was born January 15, 1869, and was past 48 years old. He was held in high esteem in Ottoville and vicinity where he was well known, and his death brings sorrow to his many friends. He was unmarried and made his home with his mother, his father, Adam Leis, having preceded him in death January 3, 1916. The deceased is survived by his mother; three sisters, Mrs. Peter Shumaker, Mrs. Joseph Sellet, Miss Rosa Leis, Dayton; and four brothers, Joseph and Charles Leis, Ottoville, John Leis, Chesaning, Mich., and Michael Leis, St. Louis, Mo.

            The deceased was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic church and of the Ottoville branch, C. K. of O. The funeral services will be held Saturday morning, at 9 o’clock, from the Ottoville Catholic church and burial in the cemetery at that place.

Complications Cause Death Of Ottoville Lady

Mrs. Andrew Ott, Resident of Neighboring Village for the Past Eight Years, Died Monday Afternoon – is Survived by Husband and Four Children – Funeral Thursday Morning

            Mrs. Andrew Ott, a well known resident of Ottoville, died at her home in that place Monday afternoon at 1:20 o’clock, her demise being due to complication of diseases. She had been confined to her bed for the past five weeks.

            Mrs. Ott’s maiden name was Margaret Dick and she was born in Staab, Austria, September 8, 1844. Mrs. Ott was past 72 years of age when she passed away. She had been a resident of the country for many years coming here in her early life. Her marriage to Andrew Ott took place at Defiance June 26, 1862. Mr. and Mrs. Ott celebrated their golden wedding at their home in Ottoville in 1912.

            Mr. and Mrs. Ott moved to Ottoville from Defiance eight years ago and have been numbered among the respected residents of the community. Nine children were born to their union, five of whom have died, Surviving Mrs. Ott are her aged husband and four children, Mrs. Nick Sinnes, Toledo; Joseph Ott, Botkins, O.; Mrs. Rose Justinger, Junction, O.; and Mrs. John Pittner, Ottoville.

            The deceased was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville and was also affiliated with the Alter Rosary Society. The funeral services will be held at the Ottoville Catholic church Thursday morning at 9 o’clock, conducted by Rev. Ludwig. The body will be interred in the Ottoville cemetery.

Ottoville Child Passes Away After Very Brief Illness

            Marcus, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Studer, Ottoville, died at the family home at that place Friday morning at 10:45 o’clock, from convulsions. The child was taken sick Thursday afternoon.

            He was born December 11, 1916, and was aged five months and 17 days. The parents have two other daughters surviving. The funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at the Immaculate Conception church the hour for the services not having been decided upon.

Was Resident Of Ottoville Many Years

Mrs. Joseph Lehmkuhl, Mother of William Lehmkuhl, of This City, Died Wednesday Morning – Had Been an Invalid For Past Fourteen Years

            Mrs. Joseph Lehmkuhl, mother of William Lehmkuhl, of East Second Street, died Wednesday morning, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Henry Bensman, at Kalida. For the past fourteen years Mrs. Lehmkuhl had been an invalid and for the past few days her condition had been very serious.

            Mrs. Lehmkuhl, whose maiden name was Elizabeth Giesken, was born in Glandorf, O., seventy-seven years ago. She lived for many years in Ottoville and was very well known in Delphos and Ottoville. Her husband died twelve years ago and since that time Mrs. Lehmkuhl had been making her home with her daughter, Mrs. Bensman.

            Mrs. Lehmkuhl is survived by eight children, six daughters and two sons, fifty-nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. She was a lovable woman, a devoted wife and mother, and greatly respected by everyone. The funeral services will be held from the Kalida Catholic Church Friday morning at 9 o’clock, and burial in a cemetery at that place. It is probable that a number of local relatives will attend the funeral. Mrs. Lehmkuhl having a number of relatives in Delphos and vicinity.

Jacob Weber, aged sixty years, who spent nearly all of his life in Ottoville is dead at Doming N. M., where he had resided the past five years.

Agnes Z. Eickholt

Agnes Eickholt Died Wednesday Morning at Her Home in Ottoville

            Miss Agnes Eickholt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Eickholt, died Wednesday morning at two o’clock at the home of her parents, at Ottoville. The child was five years and two months of age, having been born on September 1, 1912, at Cloverdale. For some time she has been ill from rheumatism and leakage of the heart.

            The funeral services will be held Saturday morning at nine o’clock from the Immaculate Conception church, Ottoville, followed by interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Rev. Fr. Mertes will officiate.

            Besides the parents the little girl is survived by three brothers and two sisters. Cleo is in the service of the U. S., and is located at a training camp in New York. The other children, Leo, Arla, Vera and Bernice, are all living at home.

Maria Pittner

            Mrs. Joseph Pittner, a resident of Ottoville for many years, and highly esteemed, passed away at the home of her son, John Pittner, one and a half miles north of Ottoville, Tuesday evening, at 8:10 o’clock. Mrs. Pittner had been in failing health for some time, her death being due to infirmities of old age.

            The deceased was born in Lilssowe, Austria, seventy years ago. Her maiden name was Mary Stringer. When she was twenty-one years of age, she left the country of her birth and came to America. In 1874, in Ottoville, she was united in marriage to Joseph Pittner and since that time had made her home in Ottoville. Mr. Pittner died thirteen years ago and since his death his widow has made her home with her son.

            Mrs. Pittner is survived by three sons, Joseph and John Pittner of Ottoville; Martin Pittner, Scottville, Michigan and two daughters, Mrs. Martin Zimmerman, Gainsville, Texas and Mrs. George Steffel, Defiance. Twenty-six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren are also living.

            The funeral services will be held from the Immaculate Conception church at Ottoville, of which the deceased was a devout member, Friday morning, at 9 o’clock. Rev. Fr. Mertes will officiate at the funeral services. The body will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s cemetery at Ottoville.

Well Known Lady of Ottoville Has Answered Call

Mrs. W. H. Rekart, Prominent Resident of Neighboring Village, Passed Away Saturday – Funeral to be Held at Ottoville Catholic Church Tuesday Morning

            Mrs. W. H. Rekart, a well known and highly esteemed resident of Ottoville, passed away at her home on a farm, two miles east of that place, Saturday morning, at 7 o’clock, following an illness due to complications.

            The deceased’s maiden name was Theresa Morman and she was born in Glandorf, O., thirty-six years ago. In May of 1902 she was united in marriage to W. H. Rekart, at Glandorf. After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Rekart located on a farm near Ottoville, which has since been their home.

            Mrs. Rekart leaves to mourn her death, her husband, five children, Arthur, Amela, Mildred, Celesta ands Florence, her father, three sisters and one brother. The deceased was a devoted wife and mother and beloved by everyone who knew her. The funeral services will be held from the Immaculate Conception church at 9 o’clock. Tuesday morning. Burial in St. Mary’s cemetery at Ottoville.
