Elizabeth Van Oss
Mrs.
Elizabeth Van Oss, 84, a former resident of Ottoville, died at the home her
daughter, Mrs. Zita Gasser, in Delphos, Thursday of last week as the result of
a heart attack.
She was
born at Ottoville on August 2, 1871, a daughter of Michael and Mary Kiefer. On
May 2, 1895, she was married to Theodore Van Oss, who died on May 30, 1951.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Gasser, of
Delphos, and Mrs. Hildegard Byrne and Mrs. Velma Rigdon, of Ottoville; a son,
Linus, of East Liberty; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral
services were held in St. John’s Catholic Church, and burial was made in the
parish cemetery.

Julia Mena Van Oss
Funeral
services will be held Friday in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at
Ottoville for Mrs. Julia Van Oss, 86, who died at 12:20 p.m. Tuesday in here
home there. She had been in ill health for several months.
Rt. Rev.
Msgr. J. F. Frommherz will sing requiem high mass and burial will be in the St.
Mary’s cemetery.
Mrs. Van
Oss was born February 14, 1869, in Cincinnati. She married Joseph Fischbach,
who died in 1916, and John Van Oss, who died in 1937. She was a member of the
Immaculate Conception church.
Surviving
are a son, Henry Fischbach, Littleton, Colo.; and two stepsons, Hilarius Van
Oss, Akron; and Rolland Van Oss, Delphos; a daughter, Mrs. Ida Sadler, Ft.
Jennings; and a step daughter, Mrs. Lidvina Fleming, Cleveland; 28
grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.

Kenneth D. Perinn
Kenneth D. Perrin, three-month-old
son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard H. Perrin, Ottoville, died Saturday afternoon at
3:25 in St. Rita’s hospital, Lima, after a day’s long illness. He was born on
October 1, 1955.
In addition to his parents he is
survived by grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Smith of Delphos, and Melvin
Perrin, Ottoville, and great-grandparents, Henry Perrin of Ottoville; George
Smith, Medina and John Lehmkuhl of Delphos.
Funeral services were held in
Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Monday morning at eight o’clock. Burial
was made in the parish cemetery.

John M. Kramer
J. Matt
Kramer, 94, a former Delphos resident, died at 7:15 p.m. Saturday in the Castle
Convalescent Home in Van Wert after an illness of several years.
Mr. Kramer
was a native of Glandorf. He was married to Elizabeth Zahner on May 1, 1895 in
Ottoville, she died in 1913. Two years later he married Sarah Clementz, who
survives. The couple has resided at the Van Wert Convalescent Home the last
eight years.
He was a
former employee of the Delphos Manufacturing Co. and was a member of the St.
John’s Catholic Church.
Surviving
besides his widow are two sons, Arthur, North Baltimore; and Ambrose, of
Seattle, Wash.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services
will probably be held in St. John’s church Tuesday morning. Burial will be in
St. Mary’s Cemetery here. Friends may call at the Kolkmeyer Funeral Home after
Sunday afternoon.

Marcella H. Trenkamp
Funeral
services for Mrs. Marcella Trenkamp, 38, wife of Henry Trenkamp of near
Ottoville, were held at 9:30 this morning, Thursday, in the Immaculate
Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville.
Mrs.
Trenkamp died at St. Rita’s Hospital, Lima, Sunday forenoon at 11:55 following
a serious illness of six weeks. She was born at Delphos on August 29, 1917, the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Vogt. She was married to Henry J. Trenkamp on
August 29, 1940.
Surviving
are her husband; two sons, Robert and Richard, and a daughter, Margaret, all at
home; her mother, Mrs. Mary Vogt of Delphos; three brothers, Clarence, Leon and
Bernard Vogt, and a sister Mrs. Christine Carder, all of Delphos.
The Rev.
Msgr. Frommherz, pastor of the Ottoville church, officiated at the services.
Burial was made in the parish cemetery.

Hoersten
John N.
Hoersten, resident of near Ottoville, died at 9:20 Tuesday morning in St.
Rita’s hospital, Lima, following a weeks illness. He would have been 80 years
of age on Saturday.
A lifelong resident
of Ottoville community, he was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic
church. He is survived by two sisters, Miss Minnie Hoersten and Miss Mary
Hoersten, both of Ottoville, and a brother, Louis Hoersten, of Rockford.
Funeral
services will be held in the Ottoville church Friday morning at 10 o’clock. The
Rev. Msgr. J. F. Frommherz, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be made in the
parish cemetery.

Clara Eickholt
Requiem High Mass
will be sung at 9:30 a. m. Friday in St. John's Catholic Church here for Miss
Clara Eickholt, 79, who died at 3:45 a. m. Tuesday in the home of a niece, Mrs.
George Grothaus, W. 6th St. She had suffered a heart attack.
The Rt. Rev. Msgr.
Carl F. Reineck will be celebrant at the mass. Burial will be in the church
cemetery.
Miss Eickholt was
born Oct. 2, 1876, near Ottoville and was a member of St. John's Church and the
Altar and Rosary Society.
She is survived by
a brother, Anthony, Ottoville; and a sister, Mrs. Caroline Hessian, Delphos.
The body will
remain in the Kolkmeyer Funeral Home where friends may call until time for
services.

Catherine Sellet
Funeral
services were held Saturday at 10 o’clock in the Immaculate Conception Catholic
Church, Ottoville, for Mrs. Catherine Sellet, 73, of that village, who died
Thursday morning in St. Rita’s hospital, Lima, following a serious illness of
one day.
Mrs. Sellet
was born at Ottoville on November 25, 1882, the daughter of Andrew and Amelia
Kromer. She was married to Louis B. Sellet on November 17, 1909.
Surviving
with her husband are two daughter, Mrs. Florentine Warnecke, Ottoville, and
Mrs. Mary Lou Vetter, Ft. Jennings; a son Alfred Sellet, Ottoville; 15
grandchildren and a brother William Kromer, of Coopersville, Mich. Two sons
preceded her in death.
A member of
the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Mrs. Sellet was also a member of the
V. F. W. Auxiliary, the Catholic Ladies of Columbia and the Alter Rosary
Society.
The Rt.
Rev. Msgr. F. J. Frommherz officiated at the services. Burial was made in the
parish cemetery.

Henry W. Krebs
Henry W.
Krebs, 79, resident of Delphos, died in St. Rita’s hospital, Lima, at 2:20
Sunday morning.
He was born
at Ottoville the son of Peter and Margaret Krebs on March 4, 1877.
His wife preceded him in death.
He is survived by five children; 26
grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. G. F. Calvelage, of
Ft. Jennings, is a daughter.
Funeral
services were held in St. John’s church, Delphos, Wednesday morning. Burial was
made in the parish cemetery.

Anna M. Lauer
Mrs. Anna
M. Lauer, 89, widow of Nick Lauer of Ottoville, died at 11:45 Friday morning in
Van Wert Hospital following a long illness caused by infirmities and
complications.
She was
born in New Riegel in Seneca County on July 22, 1866, the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Henry Barnholzer. She moved to the Ottoville community in her childhood
and has resided there ever since that time.
In 1887 she
was married to Mr. Lauer who preceded her in death in 1943. Mr. Lauer operated
a stone quarry at Ottoville over a long period of years.
She is
survived by two sons, Joseph, of Akron, and Arthur of Cleveland; four
daughters, Miss Zelma Lauer, of Cleveland, Miss Lucy Lauer, of Toledo, Mrs.
Gertrude Hoffman, of Monroe, Mich., and Mrs. Ida Wannemacher, of Ottoville; 11
grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Lauer
was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Alter Rosary
Society of the parish and the Catholic Ladies of Columbia.
Funeral services
were held in the Ottoville church Tuesday morning at 9 o’clock. The Rt. Rev.
Msgr. J. F. Frommherz officiated. Burial was made in the parish cemetery.

services were held in the Immaculate Conception Catholic church, Ottoville,
Friday morning for James Leroy, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Klima, who
died Thursday in St. Rita’s hospital, Lima, where he had been a patient since
birth on March 20.
In addition
to his parents, the infant is survived by a sister, Cheryl, at home, the
maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Brinkman; and paternal grandparents,
Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Klima, Ottoville.
Burial was
made in the Ottoville parish cemetery.

Henry J. Perrin
Henry J.
Perrin, 71, lifelong resident of the Ottoville community, died suddenly Friday
evening at 7:50 in St. Rita’s Hospital, Lima, of a heart attack.
He was born
at Ottoville on April 1, 1885, the son of Joseph and Margaret Perrin. On August
5, 1908, he was united in marriage to Bertha Miehls.
Surviving
with his widow are a son Melvin Perrin, Ottoville; five grandchildren; two
brothers, Albert and William Perrin of Ottoville; and a sister, Mrs. Louis
Schmitt, Ottoville.
Mr. Perrin
was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville, and the
Holy Name Society of the parish.
Funeral
services were held Tuesday morning in the Ottoville church at nine o’clock.
Burial was made in the parish cemetery.

John Millenbaugh
John
Millenbaugh, 76, farmer of near Ottoville, died Saturday afternoon at 1:45 in
the Kollmeyer Convalescent home at Findlay, after an illness of several years.
He was a
member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville, where funeral
services were held Tuesday morning at 9:30. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. J. F. Frommherz,
pastor, officiated. Burial was made in the parish cemetery.
Mr.
Millenbaugh was born at Shelby Settlement, Ohio, on June 14, 1879. He is
survived by three sisters, Miss Clara Millenbaugh, Ottoville; Mrs. Mary
Mallory, Toledo, and Mrs. Emma Ostendorf, Ft. Jennings, and two brothers, Dr.
G. H. Millenbaugh, New Hampton, Iowa and Joseph Millengaugh of New Washington,
Ohio.

services for Miss Mary C. Plescher, 21, route 1, Grover Hill, were held at 9:30
a.m. Thursday in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville. Rt.
Rev. Msgr. J. F. Frommherz, officiated. Burial was made in the parish cemetery.
Miss
Plescher, a daughter of John A. Plescher, died at 1:20 p.m. Monday in Lima St.
Rita’s hospital. She had been ill 15 years. She was born at Ottoville.
Surviving
besides her father are two sisters, Mrs. Rita Schmitz, Glandorf, and Mrs. Ruth
Calvelage, Delphos; and two brothers, Arthur and Robert, both of Ottoville.

Anthony D. Miller

Killed Under Wheels of Farm Vehicle
Anthony
Daniel Miller, one and one-half year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Miller, was
killed instantly at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday when he was run over by a tractor driven
by his father at their home four and one-half miles north of Ottoville.
Mr. Miller
told Sheriff Arnold Potts that he was driving the tractor, which was pulling a
trailer loaded with hay and as he was turning through a narrow gate near his
farm buildings the boy walked under the wheel of the tractor and was crushed.
Mr. Miller
said he was watching for a group of his children on the opposite side of the
tractor and did not see the little boy.
Anthony was
born on January 30, 1955. He is survived by six brothers, James, John, Guy,
Michael, Thomas and Robert; and two sisters, Monica and Mary; and the maternal
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Mertz, Delphos.
An Angel
Mass will be sung at 8 a.m. Friday in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church
in Ottoville, the very Rev. Msgr. J. F. Frommherz officiating. Burial will be
in the church cemetery. The body is at the Kolkmeyer Funeral home in Delphos.

Msgr. Adrian F.
Brandehoff
Word was
received in Ottawa Tuesday afternoon of the death of the Very Rev. Msgr. Adrian
F. Brandehoff, which occurred unexpectedly Tuesday morning. He became ill
Monday evening and was taken to the hospital at that time.
Msgr.
Brandehoff was born at Cloverdale on June 23, 1911, and would have been 45
years of age on Saturday. He attended the Josephinum College and seminary where
he was ordained to the priesthood on May 26, 1935, by the Apostolic Delegate to
the United States, the Most Rev. A. G. Cicogmani, D.D.
He served
as rector of the Josephinum seminary from 1945 to 1952, when he resigned
because of ill health. He had served as pastor of St. Michael’s Catholic parish
in Plymouth, Ind., since that time.
Msgr.
Brandehoff is survived by his mother, Mrs. Anna Brandehoff, who is a patient in
the hospital in Evergreen Park, Ill.; two brothers, Drs. Albert and Bede
Brandehoff, of Lima, and a sister, Mrs. Georgiana Ulrich of Chicago, Ill.
Solemn
funeral services will be held in St. Michael’s church at Plymouth Friday
morning at 10 a.m., after which the body will be removed to the Josephinum
chapel at Worthington, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at the seminary at
10 o’clock Saturday morning with burial in the Josephinum cemetery.

Andrew D. Wurst
Andrew D.
Wurst, 64, died at his home near Ottoville at 5:45 p.m. Saturday following a
heart attack. He was a veteran of World War I.
He was born
at Ottoville on February 11, 1892, the son of Andrew and Mary Wurst. He was
married to Clara Krietemeyer on July 2, 1919.
Surviving
are his wife, two sons, Romas at home and Julius of Defiance; two daughters,
Mrs. Bernadine Pohlman, Landeck, and Mrs. Mary Wannemacher, Defiance; a
brother, Isadore, Detroit; and ten grandchildren.
Mr. Wurst
was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Ottoville
post, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Funeral
services were held in the church at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Rev. J. F. Frommherz
officiating. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Theresia M.
Schlagbaum
Mrs.
Theresia M. Schlagbaum, 74, died at her home, in Ottoville Sunday morning at
five o’clock as the result of a heart attack.
She was
born at Ottoville on August 28, 1881, a daughter of August and Mary Becker and
had resided in the Ottoville community all her life. She was married to Joseph
Schlagbaum on October 4, 1905. He preceded her in death on January 8, 1954.
Surviving
are nine children, Mrs. Charles Heathman, Ft. Wayne; Mrs. Kenneth Roth, San
Diego, Calif.; Mrs. Ralph Spieles, Delphos; Mrs. Hubert Altenburger, Anthony,
and Othmar Schlagbaum, of Ottoville; Mrs. Virgil Kohlreiser, Wapakoneta; Mrs.
Robert Krause and Miss Joann Schlagbaum of Lima; 25 grandchildren; five
brothers, Anthony, of Dayton; Bernard, of Frankfort, Ind.; William, of
Glandorf; Edward, of Delphos; and August Becker, of Ottoville; and three
sisters, Mrs. Lena Hoffman, Columbus Grove; Mrs. Veronica Fischbach and Mrs.
Lucinda Hohlbein, of Ottoville. A son Vincent died in 1938.
Mrs.
Schlagbaum was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at
Ottoville, the C. L. of C., and the Alter Rosary Society.
Funeral
services were held in the Ottoville church Thursday morning at 10 o’clock.
Burial was made in the parish cemetery.

Anna Mittelkamp
Mrs. Anna
Mittelkamp, 94, well known and respected resident of the Ottoville community,
died at 11 o’clock Sunday night, July 29, in the Goedde Rest Home at Ottawa,
following an illness of several weeks.
She was
born at Ottoville on October 12, 1862, a daughter of Lambert and Maria Kox
Schulte. She was married to Henry Mittelkamp on May 9, 1882 at Ottoville, and
he preceded her in death on May 23, 1903.
She is
survived by two daughters, Mrs. Bertha Wuebker of Ottoville; and Mrs. Louise
Lehmkuhl, of Lima; a son Herman of Ottoville; 10 grandchildren; and 19
great-grandchildren.
Funeral
services were held on Thursday morning of last week, at 9:30 in the Immaculate
Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. J. F. Frommherz,
pastor, officiated. Burial was made in the parish cemetery.

Thelma Kay Ashbaugh
County’s First Polio
Victim Died Friday
Putnam
County’s first and only victim of Infantile Paralysis this season, died at 8:30
Friday evening in St. Rita’s hospital.
Thelma Kay
Ashbaugh, 12, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Ashbaugh of east of Ottoville,
was removed to the hospital on Wednesday where her sickness of several days was
diagnosed as polio. Bulbar paralysis developed on Friday, which was the cause
of her demise.
She was
born in Van Wert county, and moved with her parents to their present home
several years ago. A student in the sixth grade at the Ottoville school, she is
survived by her parents, two sisters, Zelma and Robin Lee; two brothers, Ben
and Marion Jr., and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. F. R. Urton of
Bellefontaine.
The
attending physician reported that the young girl had not been inoculated with
the Salk vaccine, but the other members of the family have been administered
the vaccine since the diagnosis was made as a precautionary measure. However
the 4-year-old son of the Ashbaugh’s, who was ailing at the time of his
sister’s death, was reported afflicted with a mild case of paralysis on
Wednesday morning.
Funeral
services for Thelma Kay were held Monday afternoon in the Ashland Funeral home
at Van Wert. Rev. Elwood Bodkins officiated. Burial was made in Woodland
cemetery.

Anna P. Horstman
Mrs. Anna
P. Horstman, 68, of Ottoville, died Tuesday morning at 6:42 in St. Rita’s
hospital, Lima, following a serious illness of three weeks.
Mrs.
Horstman, the daughter of Henry and Catherine Grote, was born March 12, 1888 at
Ft. Jennings and on August 18, 1909 she was married to Ben Horstman, who
survives.
Surviving
besides the husband are four sons, Cyril, Cletus and Ralph of Ottoville and Leo
W. of Ft. Jennings; and two daughters, Mrs. Mary Ann Bollinger, of Oakwood and
Mrs. Rose Mary Wannemacher of Ottoville. Another son, Richard died in 1951.
Also surviving are two brothers, Ben Grote, of Hammond, Ind.; and Louis Grote,
of Ottoville.
Mrs.
Horstman was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the
Alter Rosary Society.
Funeral
services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the Ottoville church with the Rev.
Msgr. J. F. Frommherz officiating at the last rites. Burial will be in St.
Mary’s cemetery.

Kenneth L. Wieging
Kenneth Lee
Wieging, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Aloysius Wieging, Ottoville, died at 5:45
Monday afternoon in St. Rita’s Hospital, Lima, after a brief illness.
A student
at the University of Dayton, the young man became ill while at the University
and returned to the home of his parents on Saturday. He was removed to the Lima
Hospital Sunday evening.
He was born
on June 17, 1938, and graduated from the Ottoville High School last spring. He
was an engineering student at Dayton University.
In addition
to his parents he is survived by two sisters, Geraldine and Janet, both at
home.
He was a
member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Young Peoples
Sodality of the parish.
Funeral
services will be held in the Ottoville church Friday morning at 9:30. Msgr. J.
F. Frommherz, pastor will officiate. Burial will be made in the parish
cemetery.

Joseph
Beining, Sr., 80, well known retired farmer of the Ottoville community, died in
St. Rita’s hospital, Lima, at 9:45 Saturday evening following an illness of one
week.
He was born
in Delphos on May 21, 1876, and in 1902 was married to Veronica Koetter. He was
a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society of
the parish and the Catholic Knights of Ohio.
Surviving
with his wife are two daughters, Mrs. Ralph Ricker, Delphos; Mrs. Mark Miller,
Ottoville; four sons, Arthur, Ottoville; Walter of St. Mary’s; Joseph Jr., of
Delphos; and Eugene, at home; 15 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; two
brothers, Theodore and Oliver Beining, both of Ottoville; and five sisters,
Mrs. Katherine Deitering and Mrs. Rose Koester, of Ottoville; Mrs. Mary
Schulte, Kalida; Mrs. Anna Hoersten, Delphos; and Mrs. Ben Moggenborg, of
Sheppherd, Mich.
Funeral
services were held in the Ottoville church Wednesday morning at 9 o’clock. The
Rev. Msgr. J. F. Frommherz officiated. Burial was made in the church cemetery.

Oliver H. Deitering
Oliver H.
Deitering, former resident of Ottoville and son of Mrs. Henry H. Deitering of
north of that village, died in a Ft. Wayne hospital at 4:45 Friday morning as
the result of a heart attack which he suffered the previous afternoon.
A veteran
of World War II, he is survived by four children and 7 grandchildren. He also
leaves his mother; two sisters, Mrs. Clara Koester and Mrs. Florence Miller, of
Ottoville; and five brothers, Leo and Rudolph, of Ottoville; John of Portland,
Orr.; Albert of Wapakoneta, and Joseph Deitering of Delphos. His wife preceded
him in death six years ago.
Funeral
services were held in St. John’s Catholic Church at New Haven, Ind., Tuesday
morning at 9 o’clock. Rev. Wm. J. Ehrman officiated. Burial was made in the
church cemetery.
