Marie Schumaker

            Marie Schumaker, 86, of Ottoville died at 7:45 p.m. January 28 in Sarah Jane Chambers Geriatric Center.
            She was born July 5, 1909, in Putnam County to Joseph and Anna (Boehmer) Utrup. On May 31, 1931, she married Albert J. Schumaker, who died August 9, 1994.
            Survivors include a son, Steven Schumaker of O’Brien, Fla.; a daughter, Kelly Struthers of Lake Wales, Fla.; a sister, Victoria Knueven of Kalida; and four grandchildren.
            She was preceded in death by three brothers.
            Mrs. Schumaker was a homemaker. She retired from Ford Motor Company and was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville.
            Mass of Christian burial will be 1 p.m. Friday in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Rev. Sylvan Obergefell officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Ft. Jennings.

Matilda E. Eickholt
            Matilda E. Eickholt, 98, Ottoville, died at 6 p.m. Sunday, February 4, 1996, at Putnam Acres Care Center, Ottawa.
            She was born January 6, 1898, in Putnam County to Joseph and Catherine (Kiefer) Weber. On August 4, 1915, she married Edward A. Eickholt and he died September 17, 1962.
            Mrs. Eickholt was retired from G. C. Murphy, Van Wert, as a supervisor for 17 years. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, its Catholic Ladies of Columbia, Rosary Alter Society, the Ottoville Senior Citizens, and was formerly assistant secretary of the Putnam County Fair, and in 1995 was co-grand marshal of the Ottoville Sequicentennial.
            She is survived by six daughters, Evelyn (Ray) Brinkman, Cloverdale, Norma (Bernard) Smith, Lima, Lucille (George) Mangas, Lima, Jeanette (Jim) Ruhe, Ottawa, Doris (Karl) German, Ottawa, and Lillian (Harold) Kohlrieser, Ft. Myers, FL; 35 grandchildren; 74 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
            She was preceded in death by a son, Chief Master Sgt. Kenneth J. Eickholt; three brothers, Edward, Albert, and Elsworth Weber; and four sisters, Elizabeth Gulker, Laura Wannemacher, Ida Keller and Bertha Honigford.
            Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 8, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Rev. Sylvan Obergefell officiated. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ottoville.
            Friends may call today (Wednesday) from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Kolkmeyer-Helmkamp-Siferd Funeral home, Ottoville, where a Catholic Ladies of Columbia service will be held at 3 p.m. and the parish wake will be held at 8 p.m.

Marcella M. Blankemeyer
            Marcella M. Blankemeyer, 91, Ottoville, died at 1:40 p.m. Friday, February 9, 1996, at Paradise Oaks Nursing Home, Cloverdale.
            She was born September 12, 1904 in Ottoville to Charles and Elizabeth (Otte) Rekart. On June 8, 1931 she married Lawrence J. Blankemeyer and he died May 3, 1988.
            Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Leo (Phyllis) Wurst, Ottoville, Mrs. Marilyn Hedrick, Brookville, IN, and Mrs. George (Janis) Rafferty, Celina; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
            She was preceded in death by two brothers, Alvin and Harold Rekart; and two sisters, Gertrude Waxler and Margaret Heck.
            Mrs. Blankemeyer was a homemaker and a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Catholic Ladies of Columbia and the Ottoville Senior Citizens.
            Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 12, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville. Fr. Sylvan Obergefell officiated. Burial was made in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ottoville.
            Kolkmeyer-Helmkamp-Siferd Funeral Home, Ottoville, handled the funeral arrangements.
            Memorial contributions may be made to Putnam County Home Health Care.

John T. Von Kaenel
            John Thomas “Jack” Von Kaenel, 58, of Lima, formerly of Ottoville, died at 4 p.m. February 13 in Lima Health and Rehabilitation Center.
            He was born January 10, 1938, in Ottoville to Harry and Alice (Burke) Von Kaenel.
            Survivors include three sons, John Von Kaenel of Hicksville, Pat Von Kaenel of Columbus and Steve Von Kaenel of Auburn, Ind.; two brothers, Dave Von Kaenel of Alta Loma, Calif., and Harry Von Kaenel Jr. of Toledo; two sisters, Ann Thesing of Dayton and Carol Von Kaenel of Milwaukee; and two grandchildren.
            He was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas Von Kaenel and Robert Von Kaenel.
            Funeral services will at 10 a.m. Saturday in Harter and Son Memorial Chapel, the Rev. Art Niewiadomski officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ottoville.

Elizabeth J. Wilson
            Elizabeth J. Wilson, 65, of Cloverdale died at 11 p.m. March 12 in Winebrenner Village Findlay.
            She was born January 25, 1931, in Kenton to Wilmoth and Marguerite (Owings) Jones. She married Leo Carmean and Lawrence Wilson who are deceased.
            Survivors include two sons, Michael Wilson of Los Angeles, Calif., and Kenneth Carmean of Alva, Fla.; a daughter, Debra Wilson of Los Angeles; a sister, Norma Rarey of Hilliard; a friend, Oscar Krietemeyer of Cloverdale; and two grandchildren.
            She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Jones; and a sister, Pat Jones.
            Mrs. Wilson was retired from Teleflex, Van Wert. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville.
            Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville, the Rev. Sylvan Obergefell officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ottoville.

Clarence R. Koester
            Mass of Christian Burial for Clarence R. Koester, 63, of Ottoville will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville, the Rev. Sylvan Obergefell officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ottoville.
            He died at 10:35 p.m. March 27 in Van Wert County Hospital.
            He was born January 13, 1933, in Ottoville to Henry and Clara (Deitering) Koester. He never married.
            Survivors include a brother, Jerome Koester of Burnsville, Minn.; and three sisters, Mildred Wannemacher of Ottoville, Mary Jane Burgei of Cloverdale and Irene Friemoth of Van Wert.
            He was preceded in death by five brothers, Roman Koester, Alphonse Koester, Gerald Koester, Virgil Koester and Victor Koester and two sisters, Rita Burgei and Eileen Sanders.
            Mr. Koester was a self-employed carpenter and a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Otmer L. Wanamaker
            Otmer L. Wanamaker, 96, of Delphos, died at 7 a.m. April 4 at his residence.
            He was the first president of the Delphos Senior Citizens Center, which he helped establish and organize.
            He was a member of Strive for Seniors at St. Rita’s Medical Center.
            Mr. Wanamaker was a retired associate and salesman for C. Sherger and Sons Memorial Co.     
            He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and Ray McKowen Council 1362, Delphos Knights of Columbus; a member of American Association of Retired People (AARP) Lima Local Chapter 452, and served on its board of directors.
            Mr. Wanamaker was born December 24, 1899, in Ottoville to Henry and Emma (Kalt) Wannemacher. On May 2, 1936, he married Mildred Rekart, who survives.

            Other survivors include a son, Roger W. (Anne) Wanamaker of Dayton; four daughters, Janice (Lynn) Davenport of Prairie, Carol (Ronald) Kunz and Diane (Robert) Freund of Delphos, and Terri (James) Etzkorn of Perry Fla.; 16 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
            He was preceded in death by six brothers and five sisters.
            Mass of Christian burial will be 1:30 p.m. Monday in St. John’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Church cemetery.
            Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Saturday and 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in Harter and Son Memorial Chapel, where parish wake will be 2 p.m. Sunday.

Thomas J. Odenweller
            Thomas J. Odenweller, 82, of Delphos died at 9 a.m. April 10 in Sara Jane Chambers Geriatric Center.
            He was born February 28, 1914, in Ottoville to Alexander and Bertha (Flanagan) Odenweller. On April 27, 1937, he married Beatrice K. Young, who survives.
            Other survivors include two sons, Dr. Roger (Delores) Odenweller, of Shelbyville, Ky., and Richard (Karen) Odenweller of Delphos; one daughter, Susan (Elmer) VonLehmden of Ft. Jennings; two brothers, James Odenweller of Ottawa and Eugene Odenweller of Ottoville; two sisters, Irene Ricker of Delphos and Alice Fortman of Ottawa; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
            He was preceded in death by a sister, Kathleen Koehl.
            Mr. Odenweller co-founded the City Feed Store in Delphos with Vince Odenweller. He later owned Frederick’s Beauty School and Gloria’s Beauty Shop in Lima.
            He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
            Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Church cemetery.

Walter W. Schlagbaum
            Walter W. Schlagbaum, 86, Ottoville, died Wednesday, April 13, 1996 at 6:30 p.m. at Paradise Oaks Nursing Home, Cloverdale.
            He was born April 17,1909, in Ottoville, to William and Louise (Kehres) Schlagbaum. He married Genevieve Hempfling on August 19, 1933, and she died January 13, 1995.
            Mr. Schlagbaum was a retired farmer. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville.
            Surviving are two sons, William (LaDonna) Schlagbaum, Delphos, and Paul (Cynthia) Schlagbaum, Evergreen, CO.; four daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Martha) Fischbach, Ottoville, Mrs. Paul (Norma) Hilvers, Pennsboro, WV, Mrs. Paul (Anne) Beining, Ottoville, and Mrs. David (Diane) Honigford, Grove City; 28 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren.
            He was preceded in death by two brothers, Alphonse and George, and four sisters, Alberta, Martha, Edith and Agnes.
            Mass of Christian burial was Monday, April 8, in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Rev. Sylvan Obergefell officiated. Burial was in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Ottoville.
            Arrangements were handled by Harter and Son Funeral Home, Delphos.

            Magdalena Dickman, 89, of Ft. Jennings died 4:03 a.m. June 5 in Paradise Oaks Quality Care Nursing Center, Cloverdale.
            She was born December 12, 1906, in Cloverdale to Frank H. and Mary (Moritz) Miller. She married Anthony Dickman March 1, 1927. He died in 1979.
            Surviving are three sons, Elmer Dickman of Delphos, Virgil Dickman of Middle Point and Robert Dickman of Woodburn, Ind.; two daughters, Patricia Horstman and Viola Lambert of Ottoville; one sister, Barbara Landwehr of Ottoville; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild.
            She was preceded in death by three sons, Arthur, Paul and Roger; four brothers, Ott Miller, Isadore Miller, Frank Miller and Joe Miller; two sisters, Mame Wehri and Rose Ricker, grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
            She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville. She was a homemaker.

            She died at 6 p.m. June 13th in St. Rita's Medical Center. She was born Dec. 16, 1911, in Ottoville to Peter and Louise (Perrin) Schmitt.
            On August 27, 1929, she married Joseph G. Honigford, who died June 18, 1979.
            Survivors include two sons, Robert (Illa) Honigford and Thomas (Jennifer) Honigford of Lima; a daughter, Patricia (Robert) Ramirez of Tuscon, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
            She was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. Mrs. Honigford was a homemaker. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and its Alter Rosary Society, the Ottoville Catholic Ladies of Columbia, and the Ottoville Veteran of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 3740.

Anthony H. Schlagbaum
            Anthony A. “Tony” Schlagbaum, 82, of Ottoville died at 7 a.m. June 24 in St. Rita’s Medical Center.
            He was born November 15, 1913, in Ottoville to Joseph and Theresia (Becker) Schlagbaum. On June 18, 1938, he married Gertrude C. Bendele, who survives.
            Other survivors include five sons, Roger (Marian) Schlagbaum of Monte Vista, Colo., Don (Dee Dee) Schlagbaum and Russ (Barbara) Schlagbaum of Ottoville, and Tim (Cheri) Schlagbaum of Safety Harbor, Fla.; a daughter, Arlene (James) Herman of Kettering; seven sisters, Phyllis (Robert) Krouse and JoAnn Schlagbaum of Lima, Bernadette Heathman of Ft. Wayne, Loretta Roth of Ventura, Calif., Tillie (Ralph) Spieles of Delphos, Dorothy (Hubert) Altenburger of Ottoville and Marie Kohlrieser of Wapakoneta; 14 grandchildren; a step-granddaughter; and nine great-grandchildren.
            He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen Schlagbaum and two brothers, Vincent and Othmar Schlagbaum.
            Mr. Schlagbaum was a retired farmer, milk hauler and musician.
            He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville, its Holy Name Society, and Ottoville Lions Club.
            He served 18 years as a member of the Ottoville School Board, was co-founder of the Ottoville Little League Baseball in 1953 and a former 4-H Leader.

Roger E. Bigelow
            Robert E. Bigelow, 62, of Delphos died 1:55 p.m. June 25 in his residence.
            He was born April 1, 1934, in Ottoville to Hilary “Buck” and Coletta (Kehres) Bigelow. On May 8, 1954, he married Ruth M. Falke, who survives.
            Other survivors include two sons, Thomas L. (Nancy) Bigelow of Mount Vernon and Larry J. (Tracy) Bigelow of Delphos; three brothers, Ronald Bigelow of Reserve, La., Raymond Bigelow of Lima, and Paul Bigelow of Adkins, Minn.; two sisters, Jane Walker of Van Wert and Anna Marie Trick of Celina; and one grandchild.
            He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Bigelow.
            Mr. Bigelow retired after 30 years with Borden Food Co., Van Wert. He was a member of its Century Club.
            He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Dads Club of Delphos.
            Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Friday in St. John Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery.

Ralph J. Altenburger
            Mass of Christian burial for Ralph J. Altenburger, 83, of Lima was 10 a.m. today in St. Gerard Catholic Church, Lima, the Rev. Louis Olive officiating. Burial will be made in Gethsemani Cemetery, Lima. He died 11:40 a.m. June 28th in St. Rita’s Medical Center.
            He was born June 3, 1913, in Van Wert County to George W. and Mary Matilda (Freiburger) Altenburger. He married Katherine L. Eickholt June 23, 1939. She survives.
            Also surviving are three sons, Michael (Helen) Altenburger and Thomas Altenburger of Lima and Scott Altenburger of Bakersfield, Calif.; two daughters, JoAnn (Larry) Smith of Spencerville, and Linda (Jerry) Zickafoose of Lima; two brothers, Raymond Altenburger of Hazel Park, Mich., and Walter Altenburger of Lima; three sisters, Dorothy Keko of Lincoln Park, Mich., Vera (Robert) Tenwalde of Ottawa and Ruby Hocker of Columbus Grove; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
            He was preceded in death by three sisters, Martha Lusk, Lucille Neumeier and Mary Altenburger.
            Mr. Altenburger was a sheet metal worker at Sheller-Globe, Lima. He also worked for Superior Coach and R. A. Flynn and Son.
            He was a member of St. Gerard Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society. He was a life member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 471 of Delphos.
            Hogenkamp-Bonham-Rousculp Funeral Home, Lima, was in charge of arrangements.

            Henry H. Otte, 82, of Ottoville, died at 12:45 a.m. June 27 in St. Rita’s Medical Center.
            He was born August 3, 1913, in Ottoville to Gerhard H. and Barbara (Thitoff) Otte. He never married.
            Survivors include a brother, Gerhard W. Otte of Delphos; and four sisters, Elvira Bodkins and Betty Otte of Ottoville, Mary Ann Otte of Wyandotte, Mich., and Margaret Metzger of Dayton.
            He was preceded in death by two brothers, Leo Otte and Elmer Otte; and two sisters, Marcille Boerger and Euletta Weber.
            Mr. Otte was owner of Otte’s Confectionary of Ottoville from 1949-94.
            He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville.

He died 6:15 p.m. August 7 in Sara Jane Chambers Geriatric Center.
            He was born February 15, 1902, in Cloverdale to Joseph and Wilhelmina (Lehmkuhle) Miller. On April 3, 1929, he married Mary Krietemeyer, who died July 18, 1990.
            Survivors include two sons, Albinius L. (Anna Mae) Miller of Cloverdale and Ralph F. (Helen) Miller of Baldwin, Mich.; a daughter, Norma (Marshal) Conner of Brackettville , Texas; a brother Jerome Miller of Findlay; two sisters, Marcella Bendele of Ottoville and Sister M. Leonissa of Dayton; 23 grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.
            He was preceded in death by an infant daughter; three brothers, Leo Miller, Cyril Miller, and Edwin Miller; and three sisters, Edwina Burns, Odelia Bensman and Sister H. Mary Pius.
            Mr. Miller worked in layout and delivery for Sherger Monument Co. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Dad’s Club of Delphos.

Evelyn K. Baumgarte
            Evelyn K. Baumgarte, 78, of Delphos died at 7:40 a.m. August 15 in Sara Jane Chambers Geriatric Center.
            She was born November 28, 1917, in Ottoville to August and Bernadine (Hesseling) Kramer. On April 11, 1942, she married Cletus Baumgarte, who died June 10, 1992.
            Survivors include four sons, Richard (Helen) Baumgarte of Ronoke, Ind., Ronald (Ruth) Baumgarte of Delphos, Roger Baumgarte of Rock Hill SC, and Wayne (Lydia) Baumgarte of Kokomo, Ind.; a daughter, Dianne (Richard) Hoag of Brunswick; two brothers, Rueben Kramer of Delphos, and Bernard Kramer of Ottoville, and 11 grandchildren.
            She was preceded in death by a brother Ralph Kramer, and a sister, Mildred Kundert.
            Mrs. Baumgarte was a homemaker and a retired employee of St. Mary’s Foods. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters of America.
            Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Monday in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will be Resurrection Cemetery.

Gertrude D. Shay
            Gertrude D. Shay, age 73, Dayton, born March 23, 1923 to Louis and Sophie (Wannemacher) Heckman in Ottoville, Ohio. Mrs. Shay died Thursday, August 29, 1996 after a brief illness. She was a graduate of Ottoville High School, received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Mary Manse College in Toledo, and Master of Science from the University of Detroit. Mrs. Shay was a Biology Professor at the University of Dayton, 1949 thru 1993. She was Assistant Dean of The College of Arts & Sciences, 1986 till 1992. Since her Retirement she received the honor of Professor Emeritus. Mrs. Shay was very active on several Academic support committees for the University of Dayton. She was an active member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Bernard Shay, brother, Paul J. Heckman and sister, Dorothy Heckman.
            She is survived by her daughter Elizabeth Shay of York, PA; son and daughter-in-law, John and Cathy Shay of Dayton; granddaughter, Katie Shay; sisters, Mary C. Heckman and Agnes Archdeacon, both of Ottoville, OH, Margie Heiss of Delphos; several nieces and nephews.
            Prayer service will be held Tuesday 10:30 a.m. at Meyer-Boehmer & Feucht Funeral Home, 1733 Brown St., Dayton, Ohio, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 11 a.m. Burial Calvary Cemetery, Kettering, Ohio. Family will receive friends Sunday 2-6 p.m. and Monday 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Eugene A. Gerdeman
            Mass of Christian burial for Eugene A. Gerdeman, 66, of Ottoville, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville, the Rev. Sylvan Obergefell officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ottoville.
            Putnam County Coroner Oliver Lugabihl ruled his death due to a heart attack when he was found inside his car at 5:46 a.m. September 3. Putnam County Sheriff deputies found Gerdeman’s car in a ditch on SR 66 south of Ottoville.
            Mr. Gerdeman was born September 19, 1929, in Delphos to Theodore and Margaret (Korb) Gerdeman. On October 20, 1956, he married Martha M. “Marty” Bendele, who survives.
            Other survivors include three sons, Todd (Cheryl) Gerdeman and Scott Gerdeman of Ft. Jennings and Jed (JoAnn) Gerdeman of Ottoville; a daughter Chris (Jim) McCann of Ft. Wayne; a brother, Bernard Gerdeman of Ottoville; eight sisters, Rosa Ann Fredrich of Hudson, Mich., Lenore Gerdeman and Dorothy Lemey of Cincinnati, Alice Quniter of Celina, Jane Fairfax of Dayton, and Marie Swick, Joni Ricker and Mary Ellen Gerdeman of Delphos; and three grandchildren.
            Mr. Gerdeman was a 41-year employee of the shipping department at Fruehauf Corp.
            He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society. He was an army veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of the Ottoville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3740.

Diane M. King
            Funeral services for Diane Marie King, 39, of Lima will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the Shawnee Chapel of Chiles and Sons-Laman Funeral Home, the Revs. Elliot Scott and David Ross officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Lima. She died October 9 in an accident on Interstate 75 near Lima.
            She was born September 14, 1957, in Lima to Eugene M. and Mary Ann (Etgen) Beining, who survive in Ottoville. She married and divorced Rick Knippen, who survives in Miller City. On November 6, 1995, she married Gregory King, who died in the same accident.
            Other survivors include a son, Eric James Knippen of Miller City; a daughter, Danette L. Knippen of Lima; four sisters, Nancy Beining of Delphos, Deb Cross and Lisa Modica of Ottoville, and Mary Jo Knott of Ottawa.
            Mrs. King was a registered nurse and the renal nurse educator and renal transplant coordinator at Lima Memorial Hospital for over 21 years.
            She was a 1975 graduate of Ottoville High School, a 1977 graduate of Lima Technical College and a 1996 graduate of the University of Ashland with a bachelor of science degree in nursing.
            She was a member of the Ohio Nurses Association; the American Nurses Association; the American Neurology Nurses Association; the North American Transplant Coordinator Organization. She was a certified nephorology nurse.
            She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville.

Hilda M. Grothouse
            Hilda M. Grothouse, 88, of Delphos died at 12:35 a.m. October 23 at Delphos Memorial Home.
            She was born October 12, 1908, in Ottoville to Henry and Johanna (Brinkman) Martin. She married Albert F. Grothouse, February 24, 1928. He died June 2, 1982.
            Surviving are three sons, Richard J. Grothouse of Lima and Rudolph J, (Judy) Grothouse and Ronald H. (Carol) Grothouse of Delphos; two daughters, Delores (Richard) Honigford of Landeck, and Agnes (Tom) Miller of Delphos; one sister, Florentine Cooley of Delphos; one brother William Martin of Lima; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren.
            She was preceded in death by three brothers, Leo Martin, Walter Martin, and Leonard Martin and two sisters, Gertrude Etter and Dorothy Kendell.
            Mrs. Grothouse was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and Catholic Ladies of Columbia Council 40.
            She was instrumental in establishing the Ottoville School Cafeteria and Delphos Senior Citizens.
            Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday in St. John Church. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery.
            Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday and 2-9 p.m. Friday at Harter and Son Memorial Chapel, where CL of C services will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday, followed by a parish wake at 8 p.m.

Jack S. Wannemacher
            Mass of Christian Burial for Jack S. Wannemacher, 70, of Ottoville will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville, the Rev. Roger Bonifas officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, with military rites conducted by Ottoville Veterans of Foreign Wars. He died at 9:20 a.m. November 5 at his residence.
            He was born July 15, 1926, in Ottoville to Urban and Fannie (Rekart) Wannemacher. On July 15, 1950, he married Rosemary “Babe” Horstman, who survives.
            Other survivors include three sons, Stephen “Pete” (Karen) Wannemacher of Ft. Jennings, Jerry “Oscar” Wannemacher of Ottoville, and David (Sheri) Wannemacher of Willshire; three daughters, Patricia (Bill) Horstman of Kalida, Carol Gudakunst and Betty (Oren) Kehres of Ottoville; a brother, Morris Wannemacher of Ottoville; a sister, Connie Osting of Ft. Jennings; and 11 grandchildren.
            He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Wannemacher, and two brothers, Stanley Wannemacher and Tom Wannemacher.
            Mr. Wannemacher was a retired boiler operator from Borden in Van Wert. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
            He was a Word War II veteran, a member of Ottoville VFW Post 3740 where he had been a past commander, 1994-95, and a member of the Delphos Fraternal Order of Eagles Aeire 471.

Ruth E. Kleman
            Ruth E. Kleman, 71, of Ft. Jennings, died at 11:10 p.m. November 11, in Lima Memorial Hospital.
            She was born July 30, 1925, in Ottoville to Albert C. and Bertha S. (Biedenharn) Wannemacher. On June 7, 1947, she married Robert W. Kleman, who died July 4, 1994.
            Survivors include three sons, Dennis (Sandra) Kleman of Van Wert, and Rick (Sharon) Kleman and Jeffery (Vickie) Kleman of Ft. Jennings; two daughters, Linda (Tim) Gasser of Ft. Jennings, Lisa (Tim) Staup of Delphos; a little sister, Sharon Seibert of Vandalia; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
            She was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Wannemacher and a sister, Irene Wannemacher.
            Mrs. Kleman was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ft. Jennings and its Alter Rosary Society, a member of the Ft. Jennings American Legion Post 715 and Delphos Recreation Center Thursday Afternoon Coffee League.
            On February 4, 1969, she received a kidney from her sister, Irene, which was first live donor transplant at Mount Sinai Hospital in Cleveland.
            Mass of Christian burial will be 12:30 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Rev. Michael Schelling officiating. Burial will be in the Church cemetery.

Armella L. Bergk
            Armella L. “Betty” Bergk, 86 years, formerly of King Road, Toledo and currently a resident of Westmoor Apartments, Byrne Road, died Monday, November 11, 1996, in Lake Park at Flower Hospital.
Mrs. Bergk was born on December 8, 1909, in Ottoville, Ohio to Mr. and Mrs. William (Josephine Wurst) Miller. She married Charles F. Bergk on February 23, 1935, in Toledo and he preceded her in death on February 9, 1989.
Betty was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church and their Alter Rosary Society. The Sylvania Moose Lodge Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing, traveling, dancing playing cards and good restaurants.
            Surviving are her friends, Mrs. Pat Lee, Mr. and Mrs. Jack (Doris) Myers, Ms. Nancy Segan, Mrs. Mary Lou Greenburg and Mrs. Ruth Dugan along with her many friends at the Westmoor Apartments.
            Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Wednesday, November 13, 1996, in St. Jude Catholic Church with Rev. Bernard A. Kokocinski, officiating.
Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Those planning and expression of sympathy are asked to consider the St. Jude Catholic Church.

Patricia A. Horstman
            Patricia A. Horstman, 57, Ottoville, died at 8:36 p.m. Sunday, November 24, 1996, at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.
            She was born October 13, 1939, in Putnam County to Anthony and Magdalena (Miller) Dickman. On Mary 28, 1960, she married Ralph L. Horstman, and he survives.
            She was mayor of the Village of Ottoville from 1992 to 1995; she was a licensed insurance agent in the state of Ohio; manager of Farmers Mutual Insurance Co., Ottoville; a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, its Alter Rosary Society, Catholic Ladies of Columbia and served as a delegate to six conventions. She was a life member and secretary of VFW Post 3740 Auxiliary; a member of Delphos FOE Aerie No. 471; Putnam County and Ohio State Mayors Association; president of the Board of Public Affairs in Ottoville, village council member for four years and a year as president of the council; secretary of the Putnam County Health Board since 1992; and a member of the Putnam County Democratic Party Chairperson for Ottoville for over 20 years. She was a member of the Democratic Party Executive Committee; a former Girl Scout Leader; girls softball coach and an Avon representative for 28 years.
            Also surviving are a son; Terry (Lisa) Horstman, Ottoville; three daughters, Vicki (Bob) Reindel, Delphos, Joyce (Ted) Schimmoeller, Ft. Jennings, and Jennifer Horstman, Ottoville; three brothers, Elmer Dickman, Delphos, Virgil Dickman, Middle Point, and Robert Dickman, Woodburn, Ind.; a sister, Viola Lambert, Ottoville; a sister-in-law, Barbara Dickman, Lima; and five grandchildren.
            She was preceded in death by three brothers, Arthur, Paul and Roger Dickman.
            Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 27, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville, Rev. Sylvan Obergefell will officiate.

Margaret Brickner
            Margaret Brickner, 88, of Ottoville died at 5:37 p.m. November 27 at his residence.
            She was born April 30, 1908, in Ft. Jennings to Joseph and Christina (Berelsman) Martin. On November 20, 1937, she married George Brickner, who died April 24, 1984.
            Survivors include two sons, Robert (Joyce) Brickner of Apola, Fla., and Roger (Judy) Brickner of Ottoville; four daughters, Zita (William) Hillinger of Wrightwood, Calif., Joan (Kenneth) Sorg of Southlake, Texas, Anna (Ron) Marlborough of Eugen, Ore., and Donna (Howard) Briggle of Seattle, Wash.; a sister, Luella Kortokrax of Ottoville; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
            She was preceded in death by three bothers, Louis Martin, Elmer Martin and Harold Martin; and two sisters, Mary Martin and Rosemary Martin.
            Mrs. Brickner was a graduate of St. Rita’s School of Nursing and was employed as a nurse in Findlay. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville, and its Alter Rosary Society and Farm Bureau.
            Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Marcella A. Wannemacher
            Mass of Christian burial for Marcella A. Wannemacher, 81, of Delphos will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery. She died at 7:18 a.m. December 14 at St. Rita’s Medical Center.
            She was born February 11, 1915, in Ottoville to Frank and Mary (Schlagbaum) Ruen. On October 16, 1945 she married Ludwin A. Wannemacher, who died July 18, 1970.
            Survivors include a son, Eugene (Cheri) Wannemacher of West Chester; three daughters, Jane (William) Neumeier of Mansfield, Ann Wannemacher of Chicago, and Mary (Daniel) Fischer of Delphos; a brother, John (Julia) Ruen of Ottawa; a sister Martha Ruen of Ottoville; and four grandchildren.
            She was preceded in death by a son, Gerald W. Wannemacher; a brother, Alex Ruen; two sisters, Helen Heitt and Irene Ruen; and a grandson Brian Neumeier.
            Mrs. Wannemacher was a registered nurse. She retired in 1980 from Van Wert Hospital. She and her husband operated the Landeck Lumber Mill, 1956-73.
            She was a 1936 graduate of St. Rita’s Nursing School and was an active in Senior Citizens where she held a blood pressure monitoring for 10 years and served on its board of directors for six years. She helped organize a hospital visitation team at St. John’s was a Red Cross Bloodmobile volunteer, a St. Rita’s volunteer, and a member of the Delphos Eagles Auxiliary 471.
            She was a member of St. John Catholic Church and served five years on parish council.
            Friends may call 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today at Harter and Son Memorial Chapel, where parish wake will be 8 p.m.

Rudolph J. Gasser
         
            Rudolph J. Gasser, 76, Ottoville, died at 3:05 p.m. Sunday, December 15, 1996, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.
            He was born September 16, 1920, in Ottoville, to Gebhard and Mayme (Bohn) Gasser. Survivors include a brother, Gebhard (Ruth) Gasser, Delphos; two sisters, Rose Mary Kramer and Mrs. Herman (Alma) Beckman, both of Delphos; and 16 nieces and nephews.
            He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Wilma Gasser; and a nephew. Mr. Gasser was a retired laborer from Delphos Bending Company and he was a farmer. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville, and its Holy Name Society, and the Delphos Eagles.
            Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. today (Wednesday), December 18, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville. Rev. Sylvan Obergefell officiated. Burial was made in St. Mary's Cemetery.
            Funeral arrangements were handled by Kolkmeyer-Helmkamp-Siferd Funeral Home, Ottoville. Memorial contributions may be made to masses.

Josephine M. Bockrath
            Josephine M. Bockrath, 81, Cloverdale, died at 11:25 p.m. Wednesday, December 18, 1996, at Paradise Oaks nursing Home, Cloverdale.
            She was born October 21, 1915, in Ottoville, to Anthony and Bernadina (Perrin) Clementz. On June 2, 1937, she married Herbert Bockrath, and he survives.
            Mrs. Bockrath was a homemaker and baked wedding cakes of 30 years. She was a member of St. Barbara’s Catholic Church, Cloverdale, and its Alter Rosary Society, Cloverdale Garden Club, Catholic Knights of Ohio, Ottoville VFW Auxiliary, Ohio Bank Classic Club, Cloverdale Community Club and was a Putnam County Red Cross Volunteer.
            Also surviving are five sons, Robert (Helen) Bockrath, Defiance, Edward (Anna) Bockrath, Ottoville, Gary (Doris) Bockrath, Kalida, Kevin (Debra) Bockrath, Hicksville, and Vernon (Carol) Bockrath, Columbus; three daughters, Carol (Robert) Meyer and Betty (Louis) Saum, both of Ft. Jennings, and Judy (Bob) Morman, Columbus Grove; 29 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; a brother Frank Clementz, Ottoville; and a sister, Valeria Siefker, Ft. Jennings.
            She was preceded in death by a granddaughter; and three brothers, Louis, Eugene and Joseph Clementz.
            A funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 21, in St. Barbara’s Catholic Church, Cloverdale. Fr. Al Miorin officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.
            Arrangements were handled by McCrate-Love Funeral Home, Ottawa.

Eugene C. Miller
              Mass of Christian burial for Eugene C. Miller, 73, of Ottoville will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville, the Rev. Sylvan Obergefell officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ottoville, where military rites will be conducted by Ottoville Veterans of Foreign Wars. He died at 3:20 a.m. December 22 in Lima Memorial Hospital.
            He was born November 27, 1923, in Jackson Township, Putnam County, to Leo and Frances (Boecker) Miller. He married Viola “Babe” Utrup, April 16, 1947. She survives.
            Other survivors include three sons, James Miller of Findlay, Michael (Brenda) Miller and Raymond (Joni) Miller of Kalida; four daughters, Carol (Rudy) Wenzlick of Ottoville, Marilyn (Dan) Metzger of Kalida, Beverly (Tom) Westland of Lima, and Dorothy Dimeni of Van Wert; two brothers, Donald Miller and Richard Miller of Ottoville; four sisters, Magdelene (Ernie) Schimmoeller of Findlay, Erma Morman of Kalida, Berta (Loren) Cramer of Findlay, and Betty (Frank) Hermiller of Columbus Grove; 18 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
            He was preceded in death by a sister, Wilma Miller.
            Mr. Miller was a welder at M&W Trailer Inc., Ottoville, and was a farmer. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church. He was a World War II Army veteran and served in Japan. He was a life member of Ottawa American Legion and Ottoville Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Herman G. Wenzlick
            Herman G. Wenzlick, 90, Cloverdale, died Monday December 23, 1996, at 4:40 p.m. at his residence.
            He was born May 5, 1906, in Monterey Township, Putnam County, to George and Elizabeth (Deitering) Wenzlick. On April 27, 1940, he married Ursala Elwer, and she survives.
            Mr. Wenzlick was a farmer and worked at Miller Bros. Clay Works. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville, and its Holy Name Society.
            Also surviving are seven sons, Thomas (Anna Mae) Wenzlick, Miller City, Joseph (Jackie) Wenzlick, Antwerp, Otto (Rosie) Wenzlick, Rudy (Carol) Wenzlick, Ray Wenzlick, James (Yvonne) Wenzlick and Dennis (Marilyn) Wenzlick, all of Ottoville; seven daughters, Ann Garr, Pleasant Lake, IN, Marilyn (Jerry) Minnick, Monroeville, IN, Jean (Al) Tribolet, Churubusco, IN, Janice (James) Myers, Grelton, Karen (Paul) Knippen, Elizabeth “Betty” (Bill) Shobe, and Carol (Daniel) Grothaus, all of Delphos; a brother Lawrence Wenzlick, Whitehouse; a sister Regina Jerwers, Ft. Jennings; 38 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
            He was preceded in death by a sister, Caroline Hoffman.
            Mass of Christian burial was ay 10:30 a.m. Friday December 27, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Father Roger Bonifas officiated. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ottoville.

Earl H. Wannemacher
            Earl H. Wannemacher, 86, of rural Ottoville, died at 5:23 p.m. December 25 at his residence.
            He was born September 20, 1910, in Putnam County to Sylvester and Regina (Wurst) Wannemacher. He never married.
            Survivors include two brothers, Norval Wannemacher of Elida and Robert (Ruth) Wannemacher of Columbus; four sisters, Pricilla Wannemacher of Cloverdale, Alice Maag of Ft. Jennings, Rita (Bob) Eickholt and Jean (L. T.) Leonard of Columbus; and a sister-in-law, Mary Wannemacher of Defiance.
            He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Wannemacher.
            Mr. Wannemacher was a farmer and a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville.
            Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Rev. Roger Bonifas officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ottoville.
